He's a nice guy, but he doesn't explain much in lectures. It's impossible to retain anything from them. You have a better chance learning from the book and just showing up for the tests (your only grades), which are reasonable if you read the chapters. Lots of his notes and study guides are also illegible and he's not accessible outside of class.

Dr. Bass was a terrible professor. He was unorganized, late, and inaccessible. All he did during class was lecture from PowerPoints that the textbook company supplied him with. You can skip every class and as long as you still read the book, you'll probably be fine. His tests were tricky though, and the study guides he provides are illegible.

Worst professor I've had. He is extremely monotone and It's impossible to get through class without wanting to sleep. Being lecture heavy, it's hard to retain any of the material, let alone study for the 3 tests he gives you throughout the year, with no help. I dreaded coming to class every day.

Be prepared to teach yourself everything. He switches between notes he created and slides from the textbook. Going to class doesnt benefit you at all. Lectures are incredibly boring and tests are moderately difficult. I am typically a B student and got C's on every test no matter how much studying I put in.

You have two choices when it comes to this class: 1) Read the textbook and not come to class 2) Come to class and listen to the lectures and not read the book Bass is a VERY boring professor I must admit that. His lectures are directly from the book, and he isn't very engaging at all. His tests aren't too hard though and he is a nice guy.

Expectations were not established at the beginning of the semester so when we didn't finish covering the material at the end, we were on our own. Lectures were straight out of the textbook but would digress a lot to pointless stuff. Doesn't offer help if you ask for it. I feel like I could have enjoy the topic if he wasn't as boring.

His lectures are a bit dull but are very easy to listen to and retain the info. Just pay attention and read the textbook and you'll pass with flying colours. His stories about nature and what not are really fun. I'd take him again if I had the chance.

His lectures are straight from the textbook and he is very monotone. He is a nice guy but not a great educator. He didn't teach he just read out loud and showed movies about the chapters. Take another teacher if you can!

He's a nice guy but the monotone lectures with only power points is so boring. Going to his class is basically reading the book. You wont miss anything skipping class. His test are straight from the book. Just read the book.

Dr. Bass is a really kind man, but he does not clarify what he wants you to know and he basically tells you to read all the chapters that we go over and he expects you to memorize small details he never mentioned in class. He gives out a ton of handouts that don't help at all. I would never take another of his classes!!!

Professor Bass is a super sweet guy. But if teaching yourself out of the textbook is difficult for you then I wouldn't take his class. Going to class was pointless, it was only good to get study guides before the test. The only grades in the class are test. So if you aren't a good test taker then deff don't take the class.

Not very organized and some of the lectures are hard to follow - however, he gives out study guides before each exam and anything that is not clear to you can be explained by the textbook. Easy grader and curves many of the tests. Very personable and friendly - loves to tell stories about his research. Would gladly take another class taught by him.

Dr. Bass really shines in a field course. In lectures he can be a little difficult to follow, but the monotony is broken up by common anecdotes. A little bit rusty when it comes to technology, but at least he puts the effort in. Highly recommend Seminar and Aquatic Ecology with him.

Dr. Bass loves his subject and tells fantastic stories all the time. He has a fly named after him in the Smithsonian! He's very intelligent and super-kind, and the class isn't that difficult. It's basically show up and take notes or read the book and take notes. Either one works.

He is such a cute old man professor. His stories are interesting and his teaching is a little bland but to the point. All you need to pass is the book. study that book like its your job and you'll do fine. Also, he shows videos on vhs tapes... how can you not love that? class recommended.

Majored in ESCI- this class is great if you like the outdoors. Labs are very fun: outside and interactive. Tons of notes and memorization. Relevant material is mentioned in class: textbooks are only supplemental. Dr. Bass is a good teacher and knows what he's talking about.

Really nice & interesting person, but he has no organizational skills. That alone can make it hard to do well. Didn't return a single paper all sem. I should have read the book a lot more; anatomy should be a pre-req.

Extremely boring class. Going to class is not as important as keeping up with readings. He hardly keeps to the syllabus which is confusing, but he gives you a study guide before every test. It's not too difficult, and it's the only science sequence that doesn't require you to take a lab both semesters. He's really nice, so that's a plus!

This class would be really easy if you were to come in with previous knowledge of E. Science. Despite Bass being likable, the lectures do not match up to the exams but what is on the exams is pretty simple stuff. I would not recommend this class unless you took a E. Science class last year/semester.
