He made one of the hardest books in English Lit both accessible and entertaining. And how we wove the trials and tribulations of Leopold Bloom in with the trials and tribulations of the Sacramento Solons, a baseball team he followed as a youth, was remarkable. Vernal "Nippy" Jones & Leopold Bloom will be ever entwined in my imagination.

wasn't originally interested in topic, but now i love it! he is SO into literature - he'll pound desks, laugh, bring cookies. whats not to love? he's open and makes you feel intelligent. great discussion. responds timely to emails. i wish he was my grandpa! friendly, sweet guy. makes class laugh :)

I have had Cavanagh for two seminars and he is my advisor. He is very passionate about the topics discussed and makes them fun and humorous. As an advisor, he's wonderful. Talk with him in his office, he helps out a lot.
