Great Prof.! I disagree with those complaining about the workload for this class, it is certainly not overwhelming. You read a series of short stories/excerpts and write about them. Its exactly what you would expect for a Lit. class. He answers all questions and explains everything in a clear and concise manner.

NOTE: I had Prof. McLaughlin for Jazz Ensemble NOT literature. Jazz Ensemble was awesome. Prof. was easy going and a pretty good band leader. We did exactly what I hoped which was play music all class. He expects students to know our instruments pretty well but he'll answer any questions, so just ask. Highly recommend Jazz with him

Mr. McLaughlin is really a great teacher, and probably the closest to a real professor that BHCC has. There would be some students that find him "hard" because of that. He is very clear about what he expects and grades accordingly. He always writes notes on your paper, even if it was good. There is a lot of reading, but they're kids' books.

He has the best sense of humor that you dont really get right away. I enjoyed this teacher and would recommend this class. Theres a lot of reading and the logs get monotonous but overall it is enjoyable, and you get to write and illustrate your own book at the end which is fun :)

not very consistent with emails. Expected way too much work In so little time! The class itself was interesting reading about children literature, but he was not clear with how he wanted the assignments completed. I do recommend the class, just not with this professor! highly disappointed with his grading even if you put effort into his class!

Wonderful Class! I would recommend it to anyone who want's to know the insight of Children's Lit. Yes, He gives a lot of work and wants you to give it your all, which any teacher want's from their students. If your looking for an easy class, don't take him. If your looking for an interesting class and willing to work hard, then take him.

English comes naturally to me and this class was a breeze. He demands a lot of reading and writing but the assignments are incredibly simple. I took his Childrens Lit class and I had an advantage being an ECE Psych major but it was still easy. I did find it incredibly boring for me because it was so easy. I would recommend him to anyone though.

Took his classes back in 2004. Was one of my favorite teachers at BHCC. Yes you have to do the work, but the readings are fun and the assignments are easy if you do the readings. He's always there to help if you don't understand something. Easy A if you are willing to read.

He gave us 14 assignments that involved reading & analysing children's literatures to be done in 6 days..then we also had to read 2 novels and author/illustrate our own children's book. All to be done in very little time. He really doesnt care if you learn something constructive bt just wants you to do a lot of work for nothing.share waste of tiime

The class is fair, work a little, will get B. Read every day, do Homework, don't be late, he takes attendence. the material is funny. Like to go class. But for students who will transfer to other colleges someday, don't take it because it is useless. waste of time.
