Overall a great person, but unable to connect to the class on any level. Slow communication skills grind class pace to turtle speed. Sense of humor is non existent, and tests are made to be harder than they should be for the material covered.

Pretty boring professor to listen to in class, and assigns work without giving any sort of rubric or explaining what he wants. Tests are all essay, and he asks questions that don't really make any sense or he didn't cover in class. There's a group project that he doesn't really explain either. Wish I had taken this class with another professor.

This teacher is just terrible. He gives a test on material not covered in class, or in readings. He then announces that at the beginning of the test, and expects you to get it in the minute he tries to explain (he is useless at that too) don't take him if you somehow can avoid it.

Go to class and speak up for extra points. 3 exams @ 15%. Individual and Group PPT and presentation. Exams are all essays. Gives study guide, so just split that up among ppl to do and it's not that bad, but don't wait till last minute! Can go to him with questions and he basically gives you what the essay question will be. Very boring though!

Terribly boring, and repeats everything he says 2-3 times. I never had any idea what he was talking about and he never responded to my emails. Tests are essays, he gives you a list of 19 possible questions and tests you on 6. Its pretty hard considering you learn nothing during this class. Has quizzes on days people are not there.

Dotson isn't the easiest professor by any means, but once you get the hang of him he's an excellent professor. Essay exams are rough. Show a genuine interest in the subject, visit him during his office hours, and put forth some effort - I guarantee you'll do well. Not only that, but you'll actually LEARN the material.

Rude. Unhelpful. I'm an A student (GPA 3.8) and got a B in this class. Summarizing an article- 85?! Class participation (never missed, always answered questions)- 90?! Good luck. I'm not sure what the trick to this guy is but I didn't have it. Oh, never returns e-mails either. =Frustrating.

Tests were not impossible but took a lot of studying!! All essay and gives you the questions about a week in advance. I took in summer and came out with a A- but probably only because I had no other classes. He tries to flaunt this Phd. with big words. Powerpoints are useless. Wouldn't recommend but you don't have much of a choice. Good Luck!

Gives all essay tests. He does give you the questions before hand but doesn't make tests much easier. Pop quizzes on random days and they're usually only one question so that makes it very difficult to ace them unless you've read the chapters really carefully. Powerpoints are straight out of the book.

Absolutist ridiculous. Makes you attend class so you can listen to him put a stupid spin on the book lectures you can get online. By putting a spin I mean telling boring stories he thinks relates to the subject at hand and stares at you while talking. Even worse in the summer. Assigns you a 7pg paper and gives you all essay test. WORST teacher

Essay tests in the summer, attendance is 20% of grade, 15 minute presentation with 7 page paper... doesn't tell you when you're presenting... it just sucks. I took this class and dropped out with a teacher who gave multiple choice tests for our whole grade. Should have stayed with her.

Testing was unfair, all essay questions over many chapters and articles which were boring, stupid, and mostly unrelated to the course. No assistance was ever given on what to study, only to read the chapters and look at his painfully boring slides. all his lectures he just read off of the board. I enjoyed Dotson's class; however, you just have to like his style of teaching and testing. I test better on essays and his intro class has straight essay exams. I was dreading the essay exams at first, but then it ended up being easier for me than multiple choice. He might seem arrogant at first, but he's very nice once you get to know him.
