Unclear, confusing, uninterested. Harkness does not care about this class. It was only once a week and due to cancellations I barely attended class. His criteria for grading is not clear and how to do each assignment was unclear as well. I would not recommend Harkness whatsoever.

I don't know how this guy is head of the accounting department. It's a one credit class and he assigns the homework and dismisses class. Very vague on instructions and expectations and you end up with low grades. Terrible teacher/head of dept. We pay way too much money to teach ourselves to only get a low grade.

I had low expectations but he wasn't too bad. I think so many complained, he may have stepped it up. Lots of work for 1 credit. Youctube taught me more than professor but very nice guy and always offered extra help, if needed.

Terrible professor! Constantly cancels class, does not respond to emails, and gives homework every week with missing information and ambiguous writing. I put more effort into this 1 credit class than I did into other 3 credit classes and am surprised that I managed an A. Also, there is the SUA project that is a pain in the butt, but unavoidable.

Tough for an entry level accounting class, however an A is definitely attainable. Wasn't the most organized and his teaching style was pretty boring/dry. Nice guy overall and definitely approachable, despite being the department head. I'd recommend avoiding his classes, especially for non-accounting majors, if at all possible.

AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! His tests are LONG. The questions are vague, short answer problems. You won't get credit unless your answer is a direct quote from the book. Horrible at partial credit. PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Hands down worst professor I've had at UMD. Doesn't even respond to emails and it is so obvious that he is the department chair because he doesn't care one bit. Exams are not even fair. The pop quizzes are a joke. And worst of all there is no way to avoid him. good luck

Professor missed tons of classes. TOok a week's vacation to Chile, and then another five weeks to grade the exam he dumped on the class. Exam was not graded, but arbitrarily curved. Wrote all exams from prior semester's book, so class was completely lost. It was so ridiculously flawed, he should be fired.

It's not that the material is hard. It's hard because it's mostly obvious to anyone from the 20th century. It's tedious to retain and what's worse, it's mostly abstract and unapplicable. Homework is useless, making studying difficult without memorization.

Yes the rumors are true. This class should no way be a 3 credit class. Although the material is not that difficult, it is tideous and hard to retain. An A is very possible, but you must put in an honest effort. Quizes and homework everyweek and the quizes are more difficult than the tests. Projects and data analysis assignments also due.

He is a nice person, and I think it's important to make an impression upon him, convey to him that you're putting forth the effort. This class was like taking 380 all over again (Data Analysis and Database projects), which was a pain. Hmwk due each week, boring class lectures. Exams were fairly easy, taken directly from the textbook and hmwk.

He is an F'n brian when it comes to this stuff...very qualified, but the class does have a lot of work to it...I would recommend not taking the 6-9 course but the 2ice a week class instead. He is supper helpful outside of class...Email and Phone sometimes are not his strong suite, SO try stopping in to his office hours...Very Good Teacher
