Dr. Mack is one of the best professors I have ever had! This man is so incredibly intelligent, and his side comments never cease to make me laugh. His insight into Shakespeare is incredibly profound... you learn a ton by simply sitting in on class. Also, go to his office hours! He will help you through any problems you may have! Amazing Dude!

One of my favorite professors ever. Wry sense of humor makes class hilarious and he's incredibly knowledgeable - particularly in Shakespeare. He knows what he wants in grading though so you need to be on top of your papers/reading. Very helpful outside of class with mandatory meetings to make sure you are on top of things.

I will never forget Dr. Mack. He is one of the best professors you can ever have and his class was truly inspirational. His dry sense of humor is fantastic and he makes you really understand and grasp Shakespeare clearly. Taking his class had a huge impact on my life. Take his class!

He calls on students when he thinks they don't know the answer. His tests are HARD, he makes you feel stupid and belittles any kind of insight that he doesn't share the same sentiment for. Do not take him if you can avoid it. I felt patronized by him. He is insensitive to cultural differences and has the TA doing all the work. TA was NOT helpful!

Pompous, rude, insensitive jerk. Won't listen to any other intrepretations but his own. The way to get an A is to regurgitate his opinion.

Cons: leaves the grading to his TA (who was a tough grader), and he singled me out in class for not having my book! Pros: He deserves his accolades--incredibly knowledgeable, great teaching abilities, and an absolutely hilarious sense of humor. Highly recommended.

Brilliant man with a very subtle teaching style. Some see him as patronizing, but I disagree. An excellent professor and fair grader at any rate, and has a good sense of humor. You will learn more from him, esp. about Shakespeare, than from any other professor at Catholic. Definitely one of CUA's best professors.

Brilliant man, one of the smartest I think I've ever met, but his class is a ****. Tons of not-so-easy reading, lots of class discussion on quite difficult tracks. You do come out feeling very well-read tho. Worth it for those who aren't afraid to spend weekends reading Homer, etc.

Pretty good lecturer- a bit stiff, but clear. Not much active participation/discussion- just asks pointed rhetorical questions and tries to get you to agree. Can come off as cold, which is OK with me; some find it intimidating/rude. His grading/comments seem reasonable. Mostly agreed with his views on the texts. Tests can be tough.

I can't believe all the praise for this guy. His reading assignments were excessive and rarely were they discussed in class. When it came to papers, he was unreasonably harsh in grading, and offered little help during office hours. Avoid.

Mack is a great teacher, but he's not an easy boat. Don't think you can't read and reread each line in every work of Shakespeare and pass.
