Dr. Mendle is my stereotype of an eccentric college professor - extremely knowledgeable, has a fun lecture style, and expects you to know your stuff for his tests. Take good notes! There are only three tests, but they take a LOT of preparation for. He does give you the essay topic beforehand. I would definitely recommend him!

His lecture style is somewhat overwhelming, and can make you feel uncomfortable. He is passionate about British History, and if you truly want to learn it, take his course. This course is rather difficult in the grading though, even good students who attend class can receive poor grades.

Great teacher, knows the info very well. But the class isn't easy, you have to pay attention and write papers and be prepared to work with with a lot of source materials.

Class is pretty hard;study the exact dates and locations of various events for 17th cent to 1688 course. His level of knowledge on the subject is almost expected of the students Don't expect to catch him after class unless you have a damn good reason. No class discussions. He's the first history teacher I haven't liked, usually they're pretty cool.

Mendle is a history major's dream professor. Once you get past his loud (sometimes annoying) lecture style, he's hilarious and full of knowledge about random British crap. He's from New York which probably explains the people who said he's rude... he is very sarcastic and blunt. His classes always fill up fast because he's just that awesome.

Extremely eccentric, but really knows his stuff. Has a passion for the material he teaches and it rubs off. Very interesting material and his lectures are never boring. YOU MUST COME TO CLASS AND TAKE GOOD NOTES. If you don't, you'll fail.

Dr. Mendle is an awesome guy. However, be warned, his tests are not easy. You will learn a lot just from his lectures, but be prepared to put some hard work into test prep. We had 3 tests and he took attendance (everyday at the beginning then slacked off towards the end)- but not sure how much that actually factored into our final grade.

I really enjoyed Dr. Mendle. He was very through, and the tests weren't easy, but I still utilize the lessons as well as the information that he taught us in class. Plus he be a great guy to go out and have a beer with, and he could tell you all about the pastoral nature of England!

Mendle's my favorite professor at UofA. The guy's hilarious and is very enthusiastic about topics that bore everyone (ex, 17th C. Britain); eventually, it'll rub off on you.

I took Mendle's Tudor England course, and it made me excited about a subject I had previously cared almost nothing about. His lectures are accessible and entertaining, and he presents the world of the past to students in ways you can relate to through good examples, illustrations, etc. I highly recommend any of his calsses, esp. upper level.

Dr. Mendle is a wonderful professor and awesome person. Many people don't seem to understand his sense of humor, but if you do, his jokes are usually HILARIOUS! I am extremely interested in British history and gained a great deal of knowledge in this class. I highly recommend it!

Dr. Mendle is a funny guy. I had him for HY101 at 8 oclock in the morning, but he managed to keep us awake. He has you copy a lot of notes, but he underlines the ones that are most important. Tests come directly from the underlined material, so if you can memorized those parts of your notes you should be fine.

Don't buy the big book cause you'll never use it...class was okay, and the guy really knows his stuff. Neither the friendliest nor the easiest guy, but if you go to class and take notes, the tests aren't too bad. 1/2 of each test is essays, so get ready to b.s. a lot.

He is an interesting lecturer, and is clearly very passionate about what he teaches. However, his tests were quite tedious. His final was cumulative with half of it multiple choice, and the other half comprised of three essay questions.

Go to class and take good notes otherwise you are screwed. You need to know important dates for each exam. If you are good at BS-ing free response and essay questions you'll fine.

Dr. Mendle is a great lecturer, but he seems to feel interaction with students is bothersome and distasteful. I worked extremely hard but ended up with an A-. The tests do not seem to follow the lecture or assigned reading. I did learn quite a bit in his class though.
