Comment:
Worked on my thesis with him this semester, continuing in the spring. Professor Pritchett is hysterical when he finds the right opportunity. Very sarcastic sense of humor. Good listener. He doesn't say explicitly what's wrong, he tries to guide in the right direction until that obviously doesn't work. Wants the student to do the figuring out.

He will not let you turn in assignments early. This class is very discussion board heavy, a 250 word minimum post is due each week alongside a 250 word response to peers. The reading is hard and there's a lot. The syllabus is confusing. Then, after all is said and done, he will not give full points, he will say 'good job' and still only give 80%

The material he's given for the class is fantastic. The course was 8 weeks and he assigned 4 excellent novels, plus short stories. No textbook, but a lot of (great) reading. He doesn't grade objectively at all. He gives simplified frameworks to analyze complex stories, then says your assertions are incorrect (regardless of how you use evidence).

I couldn't STAND this class. It was creative writing, and we spent HALF of every class period workshopping students' writing. I just don't think I should pay thousands of dollars to read other students' work. He actually told the class that writing should be plot-based and not character-based. This class is a joke. I learned nothing.

Easily one of the most entertaining professors I've had. His deadpan humor was often the highlight of my week. If you're a sci-fi writer, prepare to justify it because he will tell you how much he dislikes it. But I often found his critiques fair, interesting, and helpful (I was not a sci-fi writer, however).

Professor Pritchett is a great instructor. His novel-writing method is really useful and got me out of my writers block and well into what is turning out to be a great first draft. He also was really understanding and doesn't mind helping you with questions/concerns.

The readings were great, content was relevant. Pritchett can be very unorganized and frequently forgot what we were doing for class. The length of each student's workshop was inconsistent, he rarely kept track of time. Pritchett won't challenge students, so if you are ambitious and care about your work he may not be the best teacher for you.

Great intro writing class and definitely not a blow off course. Entails extensive reading and response assignments. Pritchett gives well-considered feedback and clearly conveys info about story structure, etc. If you simply want a prof to praise your poorly written attempts at genre fiction rather than improve yourself - find another instructor.

His use of novels and short stories are outdated, boring, and rarely helpful, much like his ideas about writing. This may be a great class if you're a follower who cares very little about creativity or fiction beyond a trite surface form of entertainment.

Set up of online class was confusing. It was difficult to find assignments. Grading guidelines are unclear, and wasn't sure how assignments were evaluated. There were at least 5 assignments a week. Participation and responses to other student's writing is mandatory. Reading material is dry.

As long as you go to class and submit all required work, you will get an A. He is easy, but not helpful. He will not provide any useful critiques and if you write any sort of genre fiction, he will be even less helpful and grimace through the whole hour. And he doesn't use the books much and they are boring and long.

While Pritchett's expectations are a little difficult to grasp, he does raise good questions during class discussions and during workshops. He has a lot of patience when it comes to the different works that are submitted for class and makes what could be a horrible experience quite enjoyable. Great professor.

Pritchett is transphobic and does not understand queer issues at all. He will not like your writing if it is not similar to his or clearly from personal experience. He likes debating minute issues for an entire day - such as debating about your choice in character names. Also, he may assign you 6 novels and spend 4 periods semi-talking about them.

Not the teacher I expected for creative writing. He is disorganized and does not follow any principles to convey the fundamentals on crafting a story to the students. He uses older stories as models, which aren?t up to date with the publishing world. He came to most classes appearing unenthusiastic about teaching. He was mostly concerned with stude
