Rutz was alright but I didn't really warm up to him until the last few weeks of the semester. At first he comes off as a little intimidating but actually is a really understanding and reasonable guy.

Lots of homework for a 3 credit course. Heavy reading each week along with lots of online exams and discussions due each week. Didnt have grades in at all during the course so you never knew what scores you got on the exams. Overall, there was a lot of online reading, exams, and discussions to do for this online course

He's a solid professor. All of his classes are the same. He gets stuck talking on the same topic and rambles for ten minutes before moving onto a different topic and repeats that for ten minutes. But, he's an easy grader and attendance is not mandatory. I recommend Rutz if you want an easy teacher; if you actually want to learn, look elsewhere.

Rutz definitely knows the stuff he's talking about. class consists of sitting and copying notes off a slideshow the entire time. He's a pretty understanding guy if you need a deadline extended or something like that. The weekly homework was a lot, but it only helps you for the exams. Boring class but honestly pretty cool stuff you learn.

Took the online History 102 class. TONS of reading from the required "online" textbook. Waaaay more homework than a standard 3 credit class! There are so many assignments each week that it's tough to keep them all straight. Do Not Take unless you love doing lots and lots of homework each night for a simple gen-ed.

Tests make up 60% of your grade so I say coming to lecture and reading is kinda important. The textbook is interactive online which I found very helpful as far as studying goes. Rutz isn't the most exciting professor, but he does offer LOTS of opportunity for extra credit so even if History isn't your thing, this class isn't hard.

Voice isn't very pleasant to listen too, although I get terribly bored in this class, Michael Rutz does know his material, just don't expect to be "wow"ed or entertained in this class.

Professor Rutz is a well-rounded Professor. Would recommend taking him. He is very laid back and understanding of all his students. Grading criteria is clear and I never was taken by surprise when receiving a grade back from him. He does however take awhile to hand things back! Overall, great guy!

He's a pretty cool professor overall. However he takes a couple days to respond to emails. He's given back our assignments but has yet to enter any grades in the grade book and there are only three weeks left in the semester. He loves to talk and is very passionate about what he teaches.

I like him as a guy but not so much a professor. He is nice and understanding but lacks some teaching skills. He will talk all class long with no visuals, which is boring and hard to pick up. Assignments are all online and are very easy but takes a lot of time to finish. Exams are pretty hard though. Cool guy but hard and boring class.

Super nice guy! I would agree with previous reviews that his lack of visual aids during lectures is awkward and makes it difficult to follow along (especially if you're taking an AM class) He only writes down big words on the board so you know how to spell them, other than that.. your notes are what you catch him say.

He lectures by notes that he has and does not show anything other than maps on the board. Would be easier to understand if he lectured off of a powerpoint.

Taking this guy for interim and he's not too bad of a guy. His exams are easy and work is all online which makes it very easy. It gets dreadful because he talks a lot but he does show videos to use up the three hour lecture so it isn't so bad. He doesn't reply to emails but is very helpful if you just approach him. Very nice and laid back guy.

Nice and friendly guy but he can really talk! He won't miss a minute of his time to talk and it gets boring because he talks fast. It's hard to take notes because he jumps all over. But his assignments are easy and exams aren't horrible. Easy class and nice guy but very boring.

Very nice and helpful professor, but he really does like to hear himself talk. He was also constantly behind on scoring quizzes which was endlessly frustrating, but he offered a lot of extra credit. Easy professor.

I've had Rutz 4 times, he is one of my favorite professors I've had at my 3 years at UWO. He is passionate about teaching, though may be a little long winded at times. I thoroughly enjoy his class, attendance is not mandatory, and in his upper levels he barely assigns homework and has few tests. Perfect for the lazy student.

He told us the best way to contact him was through email. I emailed him one day telling him I wouldn't be attending lecture because I wasn't feeling well. He never emailed me back. The next lecture before he started, he told me he had seen my email and that we had an essay due that day along with a quiz that day. He also likes to hear himself talk.

He's a good teacher. Group work is pointless. I didn't join my group for groupwork since everybody had to turn in their own paper anyways. Quiz every week on chapter. You get to use book. Easy if you did reading. It's not a lot. I recommend him. This was my 2nd time taking this class and I just wanted to past. I'm happy with a B+

He is so incredibly boring! I fell asleep every day! I had him tues/thurs and he lectures on tues, then thurs he lectures some more and you hand in a worksheet and take a quiz, so I always just skipped tues. I didn't learn anything anyway and I usually enjoy history.

Very, very boring. Rambles on and on in class and it is nearly impossible to pay attention. Gives weekly tests that are open book, which makes it easy.
