Just finished listening to The Life and Times of Mark Twain, by Prof. Shelden---Loved it! He has a soft and mesmerizing voice and has clearly done his homework before teaching the CD class. His is the best Modern Scholar CD Class I've listened to---out of about 20.

Dr. Shelden talks alot about himself and not a lot about the things we were supposed to read. His final paper literally has 2 guidelines and you are left to fend for yourself on the whole thing. If you ask questions, he will talk down to you and give condescending answers. I will never take him again unless I absolutely have to.

Even though he is a cool person and has done amazing things with his life, he is narcissistic and I found that he barely taught any material in class. He ends up talking about something else rather than what we were supposed to read.. Tests are hard because the questions that are on there weren't brought up in class... take at your own risk.

I took this online so I didnt get to know him one on one. Tests are normally over readings and are timed. Normally 20 questions in 30 minutes. Does NOT respond to emails in a fast manner. Went many many days, waiting for a reply.

Dr. Shelden keeps class fun & different every meeting. You never know what to expect but his lectures definitely reflect his decorated career as a writer. He's a pulitzer prize winner among other things, so expect 1-2 weeks worth of class to be canceled due to tours and interviews he might have. 3 tests & 1 paper at the end but you learn a lot

The class is really easy. You don't have a book so all the content comes from lectures/powerpoints. You have to show up to get it though. Tests are easy but he changes the format and messes with you as the semester goes on, so just be ready for anything. It was really interesting to learn about all the people though, and he's really passionate.

Dr. Shelden was a great professor. I will say he does require you to read a lot, because you have about 4 or 5 test throughout the semester . There is no book just articles and there was only one paper and that only needed to be 1500 words. If you did more that was considered extra credit. He is very understanding as well.

Best professor ever! Loved this class and him. He is willing to help and always encourages students. He really makes you feel like you can succeed. Definitely take him if you have the chance!!!!

Favorite professor ever. He is an author and making a movie. Very interesting talks you'll never be bored. No textbook needed. The class is over people. You go over Ameila Earhart, Charles Lindbergh, Princess Diana, Michael Jackson, John Dillinger, Marilyn Monroe, John Lenon, and FDR. No final or midterm just one paper 1500 words. No homework.

Very interesting guy came into the class and didnt expect him to be so open with his students. he doesnt give out homework instead he posts stories for you to read for tests that come up every couple of weeks he sometimes lectures but mostly talks about random stuff.he is funny and is always finding something interesting take his classes.

Great professor! I absolutely loved this class...thought about changing my major because of this class. We did not have a textbook. It is best if you go to class but he does not take attendance. He is passionate about the people he talks about so it makes it so easy. 5 quizzes, 2 exams, and 1 paper is all your grades.

Very easy class. He doesn't require you to buy a book, so we just listen to him tell us the life story of different people. Quizzes and tests are very easy - take good notes. I enjoyed going to this class, definitely take it!

Self-righteous, egotist. Got a good grade but his seemingly endless lectures about himself are mind-numbing and annoying. Will never take a class of his again if I can get away with it.
