Comment:
Sponsler is incredibly dull, terribly unhelpful, and extremely confusing. His lectures are near nonsensical, and he breezes past important information that does, inevitably, end up on his tests. You can feel prepared and still perform below average, and that's perhaps the worst part about his teaching this course.

He is a good teacher and his tests aren't too bad for a chemistry class. I would recommend him to anyone taking intro chemistry!

You really need the textbook to do the homework. The lectures can be kind of dull, he is funny, but just not my type of teacher. He does try though.

although this class is tough with any professor, sponsler does more demonstrations and learning catalytics questions than actually explaining the material, and the homework on the material is due well before it is taught in class, so the homework is really hard to do without having learned it.

REALLY BORING AND DRY LECTURES. He tends to assume everyone knows everything and powers his way through the mid lecture questions (he has like 5-8 usually and they count towards your grade!) which are really hard.

Comment:
Sponsler is a horrible teacher. Chemistry is a class where you need someone to show you step by step how to solve problems and he doesn't do it once. I went to him for tutoring and he didn't help me at all he just told me to study more. He is too quite and you can barley hear him in lecture. Overall he's a horrible prof. and I would switch ASAP

He's not a good professor, a ton of clicker questions. Assumes you know everything, really weird jokes at the beginning of classes and no one gets them. If you have him, change professors, you wont learn anything from him.

Sponsler is more concerned with people laughing at his lame jokes then with actual learning. He is hard to understand and his voice makes it impossible to learn it is so drab and mono tone. If you get him try to switch to another chemistry teacher immediately.

Comment:
Sponsler was not born to be a teacher. I'm sure he knows a lot about chemistry but he was not born to teach chemistry. He cannot even speak with conviction and his jokes and lectures are the most boring experience I have had at Syracuse. He is SO INCREDIBLY BORING.

Unfortunately, this is a mandatory class for a whole lot of majors at Syracuse. The professor is incredibly boring and if you want to keep up, I recommend you see the TA every day and get as much additional help as possible. Nothing against the guy, he is a quirky kind of guy, but can't teach for his life.

He tried to make lectures interesting by starting off with some type of joke, but they weren't usually funny. He asks a lot of clicker questions so you kinda have to stay awake. Towards the end of the semester I was faithfully listening to my ipod and browsing Pinterest out of boredum. He's really smart, but I zoned out often due to lack of clarity

He really is the most boring professor ever. The tests are somewhat confusing because he barely knows the material. Multiple corrections are made on every test. You will fall asleep in his class. He is not very helpful. Thankfully the class is pretty easy. You do not need the textbook.

Attendance not required, but he uses clickers every class. Dumb jokes at the beginning of each class. Easy homework. Don't really have to pay attention if you've had any prior chemistry class.

Tells dumb jokes in the beginning of every class. Not very interesting. He seems nice but doesn't really teach well. I think he'd perform better with a smaller group, but a lecture hall with 200+ students doesn't really help.

Don't bother trying to pay attention in this class, this man is the most boring person on earth. His voice is monotone and half the time, during class, I look up and ask myself "why is this guy still talking."

clever professor, his exam is a little bit difficult.but don't worry about the exam, he will somehow lift the average score if the average is too low. his course is interesting sometimes. I recommend his course

After you are done with his class, you will know more Chemistry than you actually want to because his exams are quite difficult, which requires you to either read the book or at least read his thorough lecture notes. He is somewhat boring to listen to, but he is good to have if you actually want to learn chemistry.

Comment:
Sponsler's lectures are great. Everything about the course is simple, except that the exams require a great deal of memorization (remembering fehrenheit to celcius formula, metric units all the way down to femto, chemical naming, and other things that should just be looked up in a table unless you're going to be a chemist).
