Do not buy the book, unless you care to do practice problems. He tests only on what's covered in lecture. If there's something you don't understand in lecture I've found google (or him) to help better than the book. He is a smart friendly guy and his exams are pretty easy considering it's really tough material

Comment:

Great guy and his lectures often involve jokes that are nerdy but funny. He is pretty accessible outside of class if you need help. However the lectures have little structure to them and are extremely hard to follow. The book was useless except for the homework questions in the back of the book. I looked up videos to explain almost every concept.

I don't understand why everyone thinks this class is so difficult. Simply complete all the problems on the syllabus, and you will do well on exams. Take detailed notes in class and look over those as well. Dr. Watters is extremely friendly and willing to help you as long as you ask for assistance.

Comment:

Tolerant of absenses, although it's greatly to your disadvantage to miss class. Explains things thoroughly enough, as long as you're willing to question parts you don't understand. References in-book material, but exams are mostly based on lecture. Sometimes requires "useless" knowledge (who did what and when rather than theories, e.g.)

Comment:

Attend class and take good notes, and you'll do fine. It helps if you have a good understanding of Algebra 1 when you take genetics. Tests and quizzes correspond well with the lectures, so if you pay attention and review your notes, you will do fine. It's not an easy A, but you can do a minimum amount of work outside class and still get a B+.

He uses a traditional bell curve that has almost completely been eliminated in today's education system. He's nice and will definitely help you if you seek it out. And he has known my name since the day he met me...but i seek help and ask questions, genuinely show an interest.

Watters resents having to teach. If he had it his way he would spend his life in his lab loving his fungus. The homework is optional, you hardly have to read, and he posts lecture notes online. WRONG. His lectures consist of him burping through phrases and making up biology terms. His lecture notes look like a 3rd grader special arts project.

Very nice guy, and pretty good at explaining things. It helps to have a background knowledge of the subject. Not much work for the class, reading isn't necessary and homework is optional. Labs seem like a waste of time, but nothing is turned in except the report for the fly lab, which isn't long.

The easiness completely depends on how large and intelligent the class is. Grades are completely dependent on a curve, and only 1-2 A's might be given total. He does not care if you learn the material, or care in general. Regardless of how small your class/labs are, he will NOT know your name by the end of the semester, or even try to learn it.

He is a nice guy and always is open for you to ask ?s. But he is kind of weird in that when u ask his response is long and sometimes confusing. U will mainly have to teach yourself the material. Tests are quite difficult as well
