Comment:
I graduated in 2014 and am an accountant. Vickery co-taught FYS-Public Affairs. FYS classes are, "Designed to help you transition to life as a college student". This class was equal to a 400 level class. Vickery was liberal leaning and publicly chastised me for not thinking the same way as him politically. I believe my grade suffered as a result.

Can get extremely boring at times, but I also had him at night and everyone was already falling asleep. Very knowledgeable about film and politics even though he is a communications professor. If you show interest in the class and care about your grade, you'll do fine.

I was a COM major, and it really was useful to attend Dr. Vickery's classes. He does talk a fair amount, but if you take good notes and do the work, you will do fine. I feel that the key to understanding was making an appt. with him if you have any questions. Don't just assume.

He's a good guy and he's very thorough, but that's not always a good thing. He can talk for a long time (I guess that's good for a COM prof), but its not always that helpful with his many words.

Rambles a bit. Would have liked more in-class discussion, even if my classmates were shmucks. Otherwise, an excellent professor who really knows his stuff. Good to talk to in his office. Take his class.

Horrible professor. I really think he gets off on trying to making other people feel stupid.

A huge windbag. Other than that hes alright. He can talk about what should take one sentence for an entire day.

Comment:
Do not, under any circumstances, take this class unless you plan on being a COM major; it is a weeder class. As a distrib, it is awful. Perhaps he would be better in another class, but here he is terrible. The constant talking gets to you. One or two days near the end, class was fine because we actually DISCUSSED instead of sat staring into space.

Comment:
I have to agree his lectures are like "verbal masturbation." More often then not I would look around the room and find blank stares coming from each student in their respective seats. His communication skills are abysmal, and he should never have been given a doctorate in the first place. He is a horrible communicator.

We referred to his "lectures" his class was like verbal masterbation for him. I think if could have condensed his comments and not talked around them as much I could have gotten more out of his class. He is not prepaired for class in my opinion that is why he talks in fragmented and run-on sentences. He is not a good communicator!

I had three classes with him and the key is participation. He does a great job with the upper level com classes; 101 was pretty boring though.

Sure, I didn't understand half of what he lectured on, and didn't pay attention for that matter, but the man pushed me to be my best, and I wouldn't have gotten as far in my career if I hadn't had him. Plus, the guy knows how to run a Spring Term, best time of my life.

he is my advisor. He should have advised me of how badly he is at advising and teaching for that matter. He talks himself in circles about trivial crap that will get you nowhere in the working world. Thanks for nothing. . .
