Literally the most confusing professor I've had at CSULB. Does not explain assignments and yet expects us to know what to do before each class. There has not been one lecture in class. He will tell us to our face how bad we are and how we have to study, but he makes no effort to teach or help us with the material. Worst professor I've had.

Very helpful and necessary class. Professor Fleck did an excellent job analyzing and explaining every lesson using a lot of examples. We had to write 3 take home essays, he would correct and return them for a chance to have a better grade. Interesting articles were presented. Very helpful and very qualified Professor. Attendance is a must.

It is a 400 level class. If you pay attention from the beginning and never miss class, you have a good chance in getting a good grade. Not an easy A though. You have to learn more material than is taught in class. Don't be shocked if you are asked questions in tests that aren't mentioned in class. Be prepared for everything. Good Professor!

It is unfair to read some of the reviews about professor Fleck, he is very helpful, he keeps repeating that he is available at office hours or via email. His teaching is clear, he offers treats in the classroom and the movies he presents are amazing.

This class is crazy stupid difficult because he never lectures. We only watch films he likes, and he talks about what's funny and what he thinks is sad and so on, not about the cinematic techniques or anything about the influence of French cinema, really. His exams are hard because he doesn't explain anything. Joke of a film class.

In this class, you always feel like you're failing. The textbook is awful and you're forced to write 3 "Ateliers", two of which are practically identical. He has this list of numbers he puts on your paper to stand for what you did wrong, So 22 might be tense agreement, instead of telling you what you did wrong. This class was awful.

This class is hard, not because the material is hard, but because Fleck goes on wild tangents, gives a lot of work, and the tests are ridiculous. He gives you a few poems to recognize, and on test day, there were poems on there he never mentioned! This class just drags on. I passed with flying colors, but I would NOT take it with him again.

Professor Fleck is a very intellectual teacher and makes you think more intellectually in french. Although he does sometimes go off on tangents, he was fairly helpful - and at the upper division level a lot of things become review, he does go over them quickly which can make it more difficult if you don't already know everything really well.

Prof is funny and like to talk about films before and after the film showing. Great teacher and he is well educated. Treats his students to snacks in class and makes himself available after class for questions. He's a little unorganized but he's cool over all......... Thanks Fleck for the great French Films and Snacks......

I understood what I read. When he went over the material, I forgot everything I read and became confused. I was better off on my own. He talks a lot about nothing. No, not nothing, about himself and politics. His class was boring. He, on the other hand, is tolerable and he does help out a lot. Intentions are there, but he doesn't do a good job.

I live with French speakers and I still received a D! There were a lot of us who had to retake his class because of the difficulty. He treated the class like an upper division course. He doesn't clarify anything in english and all of his emails are in french. We were always retaking tests because of the low overall class scores.

I enjoyed this class if only because most of the films we saw were worth watching. As a teacher he is not so great, but not so terrible either-- he is tolerable.

He is about 60 years old but that does not make him a bad prof. He is very long-winded...at times it appears he is full of himself. During class he speaks about himself and breezes thru the chapters like 1 thru 10 in one class session. He is never well prepared, so class is like he is winging it. In one semester he teaches like 5 classes.

He is very nice but not a good teacher. He talks a lot about everything, makes the class seem eternal. I don't think he should be teaching. He has a horrible american accent when he speaks french and it starts to rub off. It feels like you don't learn anything. He is willing to work with you and is very nice though.

This guy is ridiculous. He breezes through chapters too quickly. About 3 ch.s in one day. The exams are really difficult. Come to every class and study the entire chapter because the small things will be on the exam too.
