Comment:
The most condescending teacher I have ever encountered. The TAs were great, but Michelle was a menance. Has a nasty habit of embarrassing those who don't agree with her opinion in front of the whole class. Extremely rude and biased. Horrible superiority complex. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, especially if you are a white, straight, middle class male.

As a person, Michelle seems alright. However, she is the worst professor I have ever had and a bad grader. Taking this class was a huge mistake. She plays favorites and will make your life miserable 50 minutes at a time. Teacher's pets love her, everyone else (99%) hates her and talks about her behind her back. Should not be a professor.

Awful teacher. Be prepared to pretend to agree with material you don't actually agree with if you want an A. This class will insult you, frustrate you, and will assign more work than a similar class of this level/type would. If you are a 4.0 type student, this is a class that can very easily hurt you because of the vagueness of its grading.

Terrible teacher. Avoid at all costs. The course was about being objective, but she thinks that everyone else is wrong. Her way or no way.

She attacked students and continuously went on tangents that no one seemed to be able to follow. When my TA couldn't even tell me what we were supposed to be doing for our assignment, I couldn't keep going anymore.

Being introduced to sociological thinking was really a enlightening experience, and I really value my new worldview. For that, I would recommend taking this course. Michelle, however... Very closed minded. She contradicts herself, and honestly I've never seen someone toot their own horn more than her. Shoot for TA Kara McGhee, she's awesome.

People give Michelle a hard time. She is a good teacher. Whether you like her or hate her you will come out of her class with a new ideas about the world. It's a good class for teaching skills vital to success in college. I wish I would have taken this class as a freshman so I could have used these skills throughout my college career.

This is one of the worst classes I have ever taken. She is extremely close-minded and amazingly mean to all of her students. She never makes what is expected of the students clear. Unless you pander to her personal views and opinions you will be ridiculed in front of the entire class. By any means, do not take any of her classes.

I felt like she was not able to accept other people's opinions that differed from her own. Be prepared to have to fight for your right to have an opinion and you had better be able to back it up sociologically.

She grades based on how in line your opinions are with her "worldview" not how well you can back them up or provide evidence for them. I liked that there was an online message board because you can bring up theories that dawn on you later and have time to formulate reasoning for them. However, in her responses she is very condescending & attacking.

This class was just plain annoying. The reading was unrealistic especially for a 1000 level class(1 novel/week). The grading was subjective other than attendance which I can't stand. Also, there is a large group project which is a huge hassle. I skidded by in the class cause I just couldn't get into it. If i had the chance I wouldn't take it again.

I definitely learned new things in this class and broached topics I never would have thought about. However, the discussion style format in a huge class can be very overwhelming, and the topics are very sensitive to many. If you want to challenge what she says - she'll welcome it as long as you do it sociologically. But, be prepared.

She is a great person, as a person. Also a nice professor, though she is VERY condescending. Does not realize that many students don't automatically think sociologically; holds it against them and rather than helping she attacks those students.

Annoying class. Group work is a pain in the butt. Grades papers dumb, worrying about grammar more than content. Not easy, not fun, not enjoyable. Not worth it.

I liked her overall- but can be too challenging/condescending at times. Great course content though and keeps you thinking. Don't get behind on the homework though, I didn't do half of it and it lowered my grade a full letter.

Not a hard class, but she definitely plays favorites. The reading was interesting, and I actually got something from the class. Just learn not to take things personally and to get used to being ignored if you are not a favorite (athlete, J school).
