Comment:

Dr. Hamm can often come across as intimidating and full of himself, but he is also an excellent teacher. He knows so much about everything we discuss. He also tends to favor the students who participate and give correct answers during class. To do well in his class you need to be a great writer, though.

Comment:

Dr. Hamm is a very interesting professor. Get to know him and you will do just fine. He assigns a fair deal of reading, but most of his exam material comes from his lectures. Notes on those are essential. I've taken him twice, he's now my advisor. Can't complain, just be prepared for class!

I have taken 3 classes with Hamm and he is hard, but fair. Those people that just say he is full of himself, just got a bad grade or he rubbed them the wrong way. He is a little intimidating, but very helpful. He will look at 10 paper drafts if you want. He is demanding, and can get off schedule sometimes, but an amazing professor.

Extremely knowledgeable and interesting. He studied in the former USSR several times on Fulbrights, and he is always able to bring interesting anecdotes to his lectures. You have to try in his classes, first impressions are key with him! Bomb your map quiz and you're doomed. Excellent professor, I highly recommend to those willing to work hard!

Absolutely despised Professor Hamm! He is a bigot and despises any opinion other than his own. He prefers to state his immense amount of knowledge instead of teaching students. If you like Russia and the Soviet Union then be prepared for a fun filled semester! He has some pretty **** jokes up his sleeve, don't jump if he directs it towards ya'.

It's been 19 years since I was in his class and reading these comments I feel your pain. Apparently, he's been rude and arrogant for at least two decades. Also, I don't remember a thing he taught, but being a teacher now myself, I do occasionally look back upon him as reminder of how NOT to treat my students.

Hamm IS the definition of liberal indoctrination in colleges. He's biased, and will NOT tolerate any other viewpoints. So if you consider yourself a conservative, you will either face castigation for expressing a conservative ideal, or you will need to learn to conform your ideals to fit that of Dr. Hamm. So much for free speech.

Dr. Hamm was one of the best professors I ever had. Placed a high premium on thinking and was completely passionate about his subject matter. Was able to quote you the entire contents of Centre's library (call number, author, and title) on any given paper topic. Called students to wake them up so they didn't miss exams

This guy is WAY more interested in teaching you that he knows more than you do than actually TEACHING YOU SOMETHING! I did fine in his course, but hated going. He also uses his captive audience of students to promote his political agenda. Sorry, but the middle east is NOT an environmental hotspot!

Very difficult teacher. Rather full of himself. Lord help you if you speak Russian better than him, and are female! Seems to count off the same number of points from papers, no matter how many rewrites you make. Map quizes are very hard.

Professor Hamm is very demanding, and very fair. He expects you to do quality work, and is intent on making sure you are actually retaining what you've been taught. A great professor with real interest in his subject and students.
