As an international student, I worked so hard understanding the materials and preparing for the exam and I was expecting to get a good grade but I shocked when I received my final grade. I am sure that I did well on the final exam.

He is a great professor and cares about students. He's passionate about geography and the environment, but you have to do your work to get a grade. Doesn't overkill with assignments but it's also not a blow off class.

He is a very scatter brained person, but has a big heart for his students and will do anything he can to help you out. Pretty easy if you read the material. Not always college level, but he does teach and hes passionate about it all.

I have never skipped a class so often. I took his Urban Planning class (something I am really interested in) and was bored to tears. The class was a joke. Discussions were definitely not college-level. I'll echo what someone else said. He'd be better off teaching kindergarten... or not teaching at all.

If you want to learn, I would avoid any of his courses. The classes are totally unorganized and childish. He may be more well suited for kindergarten, as sitting in circles and staring at each other really does nothing for our learning. He also thinks it is appropriate put a check mark by your name for participating in class. Very elementary.

This dude is a total goofball. Very odd, but it is a good thing. Loved his class for that reason, and he likes students. Pretty easy teacher, I would recommend him to anyway looking for some extra entertainment in class.

Dr. Longan is different. He doesn't hide his weirdness, but he is really a great professor and person. Yes he can be disorganized with his thoughts in class and he can be a bit too simple, but he is brilliant. If you want, he will teach you so much; and if you are excited about a topic, you'll get 1000x more out of him. Easy A if you participate.

Professor Longan is a hard nut to crack. He has a sort of self-deprecating humor that hints at something more beneath the surface. I've come to realize that beneath the soft spoken facade there is a genius mind that can analyze what most would consider the mundane parts of normal life to reveal so so much. Don't underestimate him, seriously.

Hard class at times, but is made more interesting by random tangents and their relation to geography. Would love to see him with a girlfriend...preferably not a student. He could use the affection.

This class was easy. Take good notes in class and do the study guides for the tests... you'll be set. Discussion doesn't effect your grade much, but he'll say it does. He didn't seem prepared some days and is a little odd, but he's nice and willing to help if you need it. Reading the text book isn't needed if you take good notes.

Biased, mumbling, meandering, facebook lover who loves himself and the geo majors he eats with every day. He knows his stuff but dumbs it down to level so stupid you want to choke him. Expects students to teach themselves instead of doing the job he's paid to do. He jokes too much which makes it difficult to take the class seriously and learn.

Professor Longan is an extremely good guy who really cares about his students. He takes the time to get to know every one and really wants to help. He passion for Geography is always obvious. That said, his train of thought is often hard to follow, and lectures are not exactly interesting. Not a blow off Gen Ed class.

Professor Longan is a good guy. Reasonable amount of essays assigned for a 100 level class. Nothing special, but definitley an above average professor. He outlines what it takes to get an A on essays and and A in his class period. A fair, reasonable grader. Pay attention to discussion, he throws random ?'s on tests that weren't in the book.

Prof. Longan might not be the one that is always clear, but I could tell that he loves the subject. He is a very nice and friendly guy especially when you talk outside of the class. He helped me a lot!!! Even though 101 was tough for me, I liked the other classes that made me learn many things. Without him, I wouldn't become the GEO major.

Quite biased and does not like disagreement with his opinions. In fact, I think that he is the most unbiased teacher I have met here at Valpo. And those essays he makes you read are also very biased. I don't mind teachers who i disagree with, but every one I have encountered will at least discuss viewpoints and not shut you down.

Very nice person and prof. Cares a great deal about his students. I do question, however, his objectivity. He always seems to have a slightly skewed viewpoint and seems to be biased. Despite this, he is a good prof. and teaches the subject well. He also has several very interesting lecture topics.
