I've taken every class Mike offers and a few he doesn't offer anymore. As I am writing up applications for my doctoral program I was reflecting back on all the classes I've taken over the years. Mike is the single best professor I have ever had. He inspired me to work hard and to continue learning no matter the obstacles.

Oh my lanta, I LOVE MR. McCARTHY! "Alright, you wild and crazy cachunguh!" and "That might not be true, but it should be" were some of my favorite phrases he says. His hilariousness aside, he loves his students and is extremely helpful. It takes effort to FAIL his class because he offers so much extra credit. He's the best science teacher ever!

"Alright you wild and crazy lawn mowers!" I took his environmental biology class. I'm not a science guy by any means but he made it so enjoyable. His corny jokes cracked me up. His field trips were a blast. He assigns the big research paper at the beginning of the semester so that you aren't overloaded during finals time.

If you did poorly in his class, you did not apply yourself and you need to be slapped. To do well, go to the lab reviews and write down everything he puts on the blackboard. If you are having trouble understanding, then for heaven's sake, go talk to the man. The worst thing he'll do is say "cuchunga" to you. The man is a saint. He'll help you.

I have always been a good student but always HATED science. He was the first (and only) teacher I have ever had that taught me to enjoy it. He makes it super easy for you, but you learn the material. It's great. He's helpful. If you take it from anyone, take it from him.

A very fun teacher that makes science a fun and easily remembered subject. Tells stories to help you remember things and cracks a lot of jokes. If you're an audio learner he is great because he reviews the notes everyday so you get to hear him say everything at least twice. And yes, he made it across Arizona!

I learend a lot from Mr. McCarthy. I enjoyed the field trips. He taught me about Biology and about "life." He's personable and a goal setter. Ask him if he's walked the entire state of Arizona yet...? The class is tough but in a good way bcz you actually learn.
