I was very interested in the content of the class, however his exam questions were extremely difficult. He wanted very specific wording for exams and even though your answer was correct he wouldn't give full marks unless you said exactly what he wanted, and last time I checked I can't read minds.

I also had him for BIOL 313 for the evolution section, a topic that I find very interesting. I found him unclear and unable to respond appropriately to student inquiry regarding course material. Moreover, his test questions are ambiguous and vague and is not well linked to what he lectures on during class time. Avoid if possible.

Ecology sucks. I'm a Bio geek and I found it almost unbearable, I fell asleep in more than half of the classes. That being said Lein's portion of the course is the hardest. I would recommend sitting down and really focusing on the material, that was the only way I could get into it. Seeing Lein in the office once a week or so also really helped.

Horrible!!! HE will try his best to make you fail this course. His exams are sooo hard. He expects you to know the stuff at his level which obviously is impossible otherwise we should have been at his place but he doesnt understand that.

Taught ornithology fairly well;very interested. His exams are unreal. He wants so much specificity yet his questions do not convey what he is looking for and he marks incredibly harshly, making it impossible to get a good grade. If you don't give him EXACTLY what he wants you will fail. Avoid his classes at all costs. He obviously prefers the field

Slides were irrelevant. When I asked him for help, he said I needed to go back into the lecture notes but he wouldn't say which lecture slides or which pages to pay attention to. 80% of the slides consisted of pictures that were too small to read. posted slides late. no examples for any equations and had random variables everywhere... List goes on!

Monotonous lecturer. Examples covered in class were simplistic and students were expected to understand concepts he didn't teach. Exam questions are extremely wordy and test reading comprehension NOT the course material. Speaking to him during office hours he was very rude and wouldn't spend time to work through problems. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASSES!

Monotone, keeps OFF topic, doesnt explain the material nearly as much as examples that are vaguely related to the material. Extremely vague about what is expected. He likes teaching, he just doesnt know how.

I am a Zealous student and I struggled to focus, pay attention and not want to sleep...he is so monotone, and boring..but the worst part is he is completely unapproachable and was like "you should know that from xyz" and after that WAS NOT HELPFUL with question...very RUDE.

Extremely boring and monotonous professor. I only managed to attend 1/12 of his lectures. However, his exams are not as hard as everyone says they are. Some questions may be a bit wordy BUT the answers can be found in the notes for the most part. As long as you read the notes (even the night before like I did).. then the exam should be FAIR.

I'll admit that I didn't appreciate him when I took BIOL 313, but I really liked him in ECOL 429, probably because it's a smaller class. He's actually quite friendly. I thought the exam was completely fair. He expects you to be able to think, but if your only skill is memorization you probably shouldn't be at University anyway.

Coming form an ecology major I found the material interesting and the exam fair. Very clear and concise. However I found him very intimidating and avoided going to his office. I think he has an ego problem..

Such an awful prof. He seems to get pleasure out of trying to get as many people to do badly as possible. While the course content is not remotely difficult, he finds ways to make the tests tricky and unfair so students won't do well.

Has 8-12 "learning objectives" you're supposed to get out of EVERY lecture, but skips past the slides... thanks. I totally agree with those that complained about his tests, tests are just plain bad. If he actually tested from the book/lectures, people could get a decent mark on their finals.
