Nice guy, makes a genuine effort in imparting the core concepts and information. He'll tell you what you're doing wrong and how you can fix it, but isn't mean or judgemental about it. Don't be flippant to him or screw around during the lectures, though, or he'll get frustrated pretty quickly. Overall, good choice, just be willing to work.

Definitely not a good professor. Will not give you an answer when you take the time to go see him and ask for help. Will give you the "I don't know, you tell me" more often than not. TA's are also not helpful, cannot understand them. Can't reach the graders they won't answer your email. Bad grade? He will just tell you you don't know the info.

Milks is great, really in depth linking if lab proven knowledge to what we learn in lecture. He is also hilarious.

doesn't seem like he wants to be there; takes forever to explain everything, most of the concepts are covered in Novak's lectures so it doesn't matter that his explanations fall short

The way lab reports are graded is pretty harsh at first, but it gets better once you learn what he is looking for. Tests involve a lot of memorization. He is extremely helpful and friendly if the student tries to get to know him. Lectures are boring.

Lectures were painfully boring (I needed facebook to keep me awake) but he did seem to care about his students. Tests are manageable but be prepared to memorize things that are only relevant to the labs (as in equations that only work in the one way we used them).

Great teacher! He loves chemistry and will meet with you for as long as you need in order to understand the material. Many people mentioned that his tests are ridiculously hard which is not true. Tests are very fair, and consistent with concepts from prelabs, and questions following labs. Go to TA office hours for help understanding the material.

Absolutely horrible professor. Talks over you when you ask for help. The class is ridiculously demanding for just half a credit. The effort you put in is NOT worth it at all.

A hard grader no doubt about that, but he will sit with you for 45min. during office hour explaining anything you could remotely find confusing. Practically lives in his office on weekdays. Goes above and beyond to make sure his grading scheme is fair, including controlling for variation btw TAs. Awesome lecturer, cares about his students.

Person below me: he ended up giving everyone minimum 9/12 pts for that typo, so relax. labs are graded pretty hard and are time consuming, and tests are insane, but if you study and work hard you will ace this class. the average on the tests is usually 65, but the curve at the end of the semester is very fair; you get the grade you earn.

Important to attend his lectures; the quizzes really add up. Exams are difficult; average of 45-60%. I took the Honors track; the grading scale is honestly much more rigid than it is for the 18 section. I once worked on the same lab with a roommate in 18; she got a 98% while I got a 75%. If you are opting for the honors track; brace yourself!
