Dr. Wieder is a very strange professor. His powerpoints makes people assume the tests are just as easy as his explanations and his examples. This is not true. He is very difficult. If you come up to him to ask him how to study for his exam, he will give you philosophical answer about studying until you understand fully. Do not take at all!!

This is the worst professor ever.. Complected.. though Grader.. bad attitude.. don't recommend this teacher for any reason..... I took organic chemistry II with different teacher and I understood organic chemistry way better than Wieder's class (Organic chemistry I)

If you take what this man says personally then you really have no place in a lab of any kind. I understood his odd sense of humor, and even though he's a tough grader it's clear that he wants to make sure you can handle yourself in a professional lab environment where you won't have people HOLDING YOUR HAND every step of the way. Tough but great!

I think Dr. Wieder is largely misunderstood. Most people don't get his humor. He's brash and kind of in your face, but, if he starts being stern with you just let it roll of your back--don't take it personally. Know your spectroscopy well! There is very little work outside of class. He makes lab reports a breeze. He made me laugh all semester!

He was absolutely awful. Do NOT take it with him you will fail. He has a pass rate of about 8% and I guarantee that the people passing are because they are taking the class for the second time. He is bitter that he was pulled out of retirement and complains about how poor he is all the time. Seriously DO NOT take it with him.

I do find him funny, not necessarily insulting, and his lectures are useful. The problems are much bigger. He really does not answer questions. The textbook is horrible and not helpful for his very tough test. He is not helpful and material is not so you have to test yourself. Get him as your teacher good luck!

Prof Wieder is an excellent Ochem professor, if you want to learn. If you want to check the box, go elsewhere. He is definitely rude and impatient with students. The class isn't about him though, so ask what you need to learn the material. He is very clear about his expectations. He is very fair in his gradingDo all the homework, then do it again.

This class was like climbing a 14er out of shape: The way up you curse, complain, think about turning back, but reaching the top is so rewarding that all negative aspects are forgotten. Half the time I swore I hated his guts, and now I'm convinced he's the best professor I've ever had. He's not for those who struggle with hard subjects or fear a B.

I loved the one page lab reports. To the point and matter of fact kind of guy. Good energy. Can be impatient with slower learners, but he teaches advanced o-chem for a reason;) Hard lecture class, but easy lab!

Weiter, is a great teacher. He is spicy, it will burn if you ask a stupid question, yes there are stupid questions, avoid asking him them. Just like everyone else said he is extremely condescending, this is why he is so funny. He is crystal clear about what is on the test and explains all material very well. Pay close attention to what he teaches.

Dr. Wieder is awesome. *He's* not hard, the *material* is. But he makes it very clear what he wants you to know, and does a great job explaining everything. He's got a NYC attitude, so students with thin skin might have a hard time with his humor, but none of it is meant to be mean. He's funny and very nice and wants his students to succeed.

I actually really enjoyed his lab. I think dr Wieder is definitely a good teacher, but really only if you're interested in chemistry. he doesn't just give away A's to premed students. The lab is basically set up like a puzzle and if you have the logic skills you can get an A.

This was one of the worst class experiences that I have ever had. The professor berates his students, insults them, yells at them for being stupid. The textbook is horrible and he is the only professor here that uses it. If you are looking for an easy F from a professor who enjoys torturing his students, than this is the class for you!

This straight-A student got a C in his lab -- why? I didn't miss any classes and I got A's on the lab reports. I bombed the final because it was "explain what you made in lab." Great -- I could IF he had ever explained what we were doing in lab (or at least trying to do). His comments during lab -- "Hmmm. That doesn't look right." AVOID!!

No chemistry discussions, just algebraic word problem sessions. So boring. You need a thick skin ... anyone who asked a question was verbally flogged for not already knowing the answer. It was strange, watching him insult people while smiling and laughing. A bit uncomfortable at times. Oh, no homework or extra credit, just tests. No curve.

After acing Ochem2 this semester, I owe it all to this professor. Ochem 1 was the hardest class i have ever taken, but struggling through that class proved to give me an edge in the following semesters. Highly recommended, unless you are a lazy little wimp that would rather memorize stuff instead of actually learning the material.

I took Dr. Wieder for the year of OChem. If you're looking for an easy A, better take another class. I took a MCAT exam and smoked the ochem section. I've heard the same from others. He's very forward on what you need to know and don't. GREAT TEACHER!!! Hilarious!
