Come to every class. Don't take this class unless you really want to learn about China,India, andJapan. I didn't really understand his grading system, but he only grades whats weighed. This means everything you do may or may not be weighed. You only have to write 2 papers.

Hes really not all that bad if you actually pay any amount of attention. His lectures are interesting and he does genuinely care about his students, even if hes a tough grader. That being said, he has a lot of grammatical errors in his PowerPoints and emails, but its easy to see what he intended to say. Pretty solid teacher.

Pan is a good professor but you have to work for it and apply yourself. Notes are vague and confusing at first but easy once you pick up his style. Cares about the material.

Because of his bad rating on here, I was expecting the class to get worse throughout the semester but it never happened. As long as you show up and do your homework that he assigns every class you will do fine in the class. If you don't apply yourself you will not do well.

Dr. Pan is enthusiastic about the subject and likes to joke about the content sometimes during class. His slides can be vague but just focus on the main points that he discusses as well as read the Blackboard homework. As long as you apply yourself and ask for help, tests and papers are reasonable and he is happy to help.

I liked Dr. Pan, he really cares about his subject matter and is willing to help students through it, but his papers are soo hard! (And I'm an English major! Papers are what I do!)

Professor Pan is probably the worst history professor in the department. His strong Chinese accent makes it EXTREMELY hard to understand, even his notes are not proper english. Notes/lectures don't help for tests and the textbook isn't the greatest either. Have not passed a test in his class. Class average on one test was a 42. Doesnt care either

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR. unless you wan 40's and 20's on your tests. He gives no leeway for anything, I had over a 3.5 GPA last semester and I'm failing this class. On his tests there is multiple choice and short answer. short answer is worth 20-30 points each question.

If you are looking for an easy 'A' do not take this class. He takes attendance the first week or so then on every test day, but almost nothing in between. All tests and quizzes are largely textbook based. If you ask for help he will be condescending and smug. Do not try to email him, you wont get ant helpful answer. Read the book, and go to class.

At first he may seem like an average professor, but as the semester goes on you realize that he has absolutely no structure to his class whatsoever. I could've skipped every class and only do the online quizzes. Only one project and a couple online assignments with an online quiz every week. His tests don't relate to any of the assignments/quizzes.

I'm an A student all around, except for this class. It was ridiculous. Everything he says in lecture is irrelevant to his tests, all you need to do is know the content in the textbook. Its honestly not even worth it to go to class. his grading criteria is really unclear, and he changes his mind on exactly what he wants for assignments frequently

I would never recommend him. He never gives clear instructions & its very hard to understand him at time. His emails & powerpoints never make sense and tends to make many errors on the tests. You have to read in order to understand the material covered in class or you'll be lost.

Simply just not a very good professor. Classes are a drag and questions pop up on tests not stated in class. Might as well just learn straight from the textbook. Also this professor would not pass a third grade spelling and grammar test. Just saying, very annoying to read his class notes and emails.

If your expecting a study guide go back to high school or community college. Read! Read! Read! what he assigns and you will do fine. You are responsible for your grade so study and participate in class. IF YOU ARE NOT IN THE HISTORY DEGREE PROGRAM DONT TAKE HIS CLASS!! Not the professor to take if your looking for an easy elective in history.

I am a history major who has taken Pan's classes for 2 years. He is a very nice guy, but when it comes to grading he is honestly all over the place. He says one thing but expects another. His format is quite challenging because 5 pg book reviews along with presentations are very tough. You have to apply yourself if you want to take a class with him

Honestly he's a great professor if you engage yourself in his class. If you ask for help he will help you understand the material. If you pay attention and do the work then this class should be an easy A. Sit in the front, his lectures are not boring if you make an effort to listen.

Honestly one of the worst professors I've had here. His lectures are incredibly boring; he makes no effort to fully engage the class. Tests are hard- he refuses to give a study sheet or any extra credit and doesn't put the notes online. Very unhelpful overall.

He is not very clear with his instructions, and becomes annoyed when you email him with questions/concerns. He is not afraid to make smug comments. Tends to assume that when you ask for help, that you're asking for a hand out. You need to read the text book and do the reading assignments. Tests are very difficult for the class level.

I took this professor in my first semester in SUNY Oswego. He was extremely difficult to understand, and his lectures are BORING!! His tests are strictly based on remembering an insane amount of detailed facts that are barely related to the overall topic at hand. I would not recommend ever taking a class with this man.
