Comment:
I had Clark my last semester, senior year, and almost didnt graduate because I literally could not stand being in class. Ill grant that in a contemporary lit class you read some works that havent been proven, but this was some kind of weird exercise in how tortuous a supposedly educated person could behave.

She assigned daily readings everyday for each class and had to type up a response to each story every day; therefore you must have the book. She does not have anything active partcipation for the class. She also does not have clear grading criteria for the actually essays you do. She gives rude feedback on papers and in class when someone talks.

She's nice but... Not very clear on her assignments If she doesn't agree with you or your topics, your grade will suffer Gives feedback on papers but not helpful at all. Tells you what she doesn't like but doesn't tell you how to fix it. Very frustrated throughout the course

Do not take her. She has unrealistic ideas of what her students can do. She even admitted she can not "see on our level". Worked hard all semester received low grades on every paper, even with the GTA's guidance. She's very frustrating and vague.

AWFUL! No one liked to participate in class discussion b/c she'd only make you look like a fool. I asked for help on a paper & she was a smart aleck or stared at me when I asked ?s. Penalizes students who are ahead on paper by giving (negative) feedback just 3 days before its due. Only gave 2wks to work on 20pg paper that was only grade for class!

Dr. Clark is very intelligent but attendance to her class is crucial. Every class meeting, there is a short assignment due that must be typed and printed. The assignment ranges from short poems to 40 page stories. Little more work than I intended considering it's a 3 day/wk class. Essays are not too hard as long as you put in best effort. Easy B+.

Dr. Clark's American Lit II class was fairly easy. Your grade is dependent on four main essays that she pretty clearly outlines expectations and participation in class based on weekly readings. The material we read was not terribly boring. I would definitely recommend her class.

Terrible teacher....she was very vague and seemed to always be unprepared for lecture. She virtually says the same thing every class meeting, so you don't really get anything out of it. Here prompts make no sense and are difficult to understand. I was disappointed in this class.

Dr. Clark likes to keep an appropriate professional distance in her dealings with students, which some people misread as coldness or uncaring. In fact, she is actually quite nice and very helpful if you are confused or need help and she sees that you are trying and genuinely want to learn.

You have reading and a response due everyday. She does make good choices in the reading. Makes a lot of funny comments in her lecture but it is still boring sometimes. Definitely not easy but good teacher. You have about four essays to do.

Dr. Clark responds well to students who actually try and are intelligent. She has high expectations, but rewards your best efforts. She can be a little intimidating because she's almost inhumanly smart, but she's really a nice person and quite helpful if you're willing to make an effort.

Dr. Clark gets a lot of heat from students, but I loved her class (Medical Literature). She is very helpful and had really great choices in reading. Her tests aren't hard, but she is a little picky when it comes to your final paper (I made a C+ on mine). However, I still ended up with an A because I did well on everything else.

I felt like she was fair about most things, but she had way to much reading crammed into her schedule or us. I really enjoyed the books, and I thought she was very insightful about the topics we discussed, but it was really too much for already being a full-time student. Also, she can help you in writing, but only in regards to her personal taste.

Will go out of her way to help. Nice lady. As far as core classes, I do not know. In major classes, she assigns weekly or bi-weekly work, but the work is always relevent to the reading.

I've always loved English. That is, until I had Dr. Clark. She was always nice, but I never knew if it was sincere. I tried getting help from her but never received a direct answer. Her class was just really frustrating to me, and I wouldn't recommend her to anyone, unless that person was willing to change his or her writing just to suit a teacher.

Clark is honestly one of the best teachers I've ever had; she's just plain smart. She's also straightforward and will make you a better writer. If you don't like her, it's probably because you are lazy/dull. She won't act as if your work is good if it isn't.GREAT Teacher. Don't take her if you are illiterate and want to be told you're brilliant.

I had Dr. Clark for World English Literatures in Fall of 2008, and I loved the class. We read novels from international authors, and had easygoing discussions in class. She was entertaining and engaging, and we had weekly reading responses --- very easy. Just keep up with the work and you'll be fine; all my interactions with her were very pleasant.

She IS NOT a good teacher..she seems nice in class, but every time I talked to her, after class, she seemed like a smart alack. The reading in that class was absolutely horrible, and her grading is strict. Also, when you participate and speak up in class, she always has the ability to state how wrong you are and make you feel like an idiot.

She epitomizes the most common complaint given to English professors: "her way or the highway." Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Faulkner, etc. would almost undoubtedly receive average grades, along with syntactical criticism, if they were to take her class. Point being: to get a good grade, just copy HER writing style-personal expression is a no-no.
