She's an okay professor, but she tends to single out students if they do something wrong, come late to class, or don't do what their expected such as the readings. Which I did not like. India based class even though this is suppose to cover all of South Asia. Fairly easy grader though. Her reviews for exams are not that helpful.

Comment:
Teaches exclusively about India, even in a broader class. She has trouble fitting into the 50 minutes and often ends up getting sidetracked and rambling. She is also very strict on attendance, and often chastises the kids that come in late spending a good 2-3 minutes of class time on it.

You will do A LOT of work. PApers, readings, presentations, film reviews, expected participation in class discussions, the list goes on. She is really strict and will call you out in front of hte whole class if you didn't do your homework. BUT you will learn a lot. She has really high expectations.

This was a very interesting class (cross-listed with WS) covering a wide range of unusual topics. She does seem to enjoy the sound of her own voice, but she is really sweet and cares a lot about her students. Focuses on India (her husband is Indian) and requires a lot of writing, but she is an easy grader and willing to help.

She is very knowledgeable teacher. She sometimes goes off topic but usually about a funny personal story about her travels to India. If you go to lectures you don't really have to read the books just skim over them. Must write some papers but overall she's a fair grader and a great person to talk to to!

In asian studies, all she talked about was india. we must have spent about 15 lectures talking about india and one day to cover all of japan and korea. if you are interested in india, take her class... if you couldnt care less about india, stay away from shirma... her lectures are more like rambling and totally confusing...

Well, in line with other reviews, she is talkative. You ask one question and she will not just tell you one story but also go off tangent and explain other things. Overall, it was a pretty ok class. Its a WI class, 4 essays, 1 final paper, 2 film reviews, and books to read.

there were readings assigned for each class, but very few written assignments were due. there are 4 pop quizzes a semester and two tests, which weren't too difficult if you paid attention. she's extremely talkative and i was often bored, but overall the class wasn't difficult.

She likes to talk a lot! There's not much class discussion b/c she takes up all the time talking herself. She's nice but not very clear. Her assignments are easy and she gave a lot of extra credit opportunities. Pretty easy to get an A.

Difficult to take seriously. Not always focused and easily distracted. Questionable grading practices. Needs to take her classes and students more seriously. Would not rec.
