Most of my class didn't like him, however, he gives zero homework. You show up he lectures for a bit and lets you leave within 45 mins. Write decent papers and you will at the very least get a B. He drops the lowest test and essay grade and there was only 7 essays and a final with 3 tests. With easy 100 pop quizzes. Just show up he can be fun.

His lectures doesn't cover the material needed for the test. Writing on the board will have a few things on the test. Study dates of deaths of authors, and important events. Don't skip class time because you will miss important pop quizzes that are so easy. Test are two parts-essay and questions with no multiple choice or word bank.

My perspective is different than most young students. I took his class in my late thirties after I had work experience . I needed to learn to succeed. He saw that I wanted to learn and took time with me. Twenty years have passed. What Dr. Summerlin taught me tripled my income. I owe him dearly. Want easy? Don't take him. Want to learn? Don't Whine

I ask, Where can I print off the paper? He didn't know, until another student said library, but it cost money. So I went home printed, came back, and he wasn't in the class room. (Still class time) Which he was in his office. Didn't think about it, we were moved to math 2nd day. He didn't accept the project, even after said one letter off a day.

He has a very tough class. His grading on papers is very picky. The tests he gives are about the smallest of details and include a lot of quotes from characters and makes his test hard to pass without a lot of studying. Does not respond well to emails, he says you have to make an appointment to come to office Would not recommend anyone to take him.

Dr. Summerlin is one of the most amazing professors I've ever had. He has a TRUE passion for what he does, and his lectures are very captivating. It's good to read the material, but if you truly listen to his lectures and take notes, you will pass this class with an A. He also gives EASY pop quizzes to boost your grade. Such a great professor!!!!

English is supposed to be easier. I almost failed this class. 4 tests and random pop quizzes. Lectures are boring and historical. Remember every detail because little things will be on the test. LOTS OF READING. If you can take anyone else, I would. I had him last semester and now I have Dr. Cross and it's so much better. Do yourself a favor.

Summerlin has been the toughest professor I've had so far in my college career. His grading criteria is based on an average of 5 grades: pop quiz average (easy 100's) and Tests 1, 2, 3, and 4. Tests consist of a ton of quotes and description of 15+ readings for that test. He will no by any means; offer any help or extra credit. Expect a challenge.

I took this class over the summer and recommend it greatly. NO HW. Majority of the things he teaches are common sense. Ex: commas, run-on sentences, FANBOYS, etc. Your grade will be based on the essays, tests, and 1 paper. The essays are very easy, copy the outline he makes on the board. Test are off lectures so take notes. Just do as he says!

I am a female of a particular returning to college. I had him for English 101, 102 and will have him in the fall. If you follow his instructions and pay attention to the lectures you will succeed. The class is challenging but so is life. I would recommend him to anyone.

He was one of my favorite professors in my college career. I took his class in the summer, it was very easy. Book not required. All of the essays but one were in class, so no homework was done except for one week out the semester. However, I have transferred to a more difficult school, and it didn't prepare me for the next level fully.

Dr. Summerlin seems like a nice guy. His lectures are long and boring. He tends to give a lot of useless information. His tests are broken up into two parts (essay and questions). He will ask for birth and death years of authors assigned for that test. He will put things on the test that he has not covered. I personally would not take again.

I absolutely loved this class. Yes, it was hard. Then again it is a college course. You are at school to push yourself. Dr. Summerlin is very good. His lectures are amazing. I really enjoyed the fact that he takes pride in his work and family life is more than clear. Wish he was posted to another literature class because I would surely take it.

You work for your grade. He is funny and interesting in lectures, but my American Lit class felt more like history. He wants birthdeath dates of authors and dates of events. He focuses more on events than on the actual literature. Take notes on everything on the board. He also has 1 pop quiz between every test. Attendance is necessary.
