Easily the worst professor/ teacher I have ever had. Extremely disorganized during lecture writing random things on the chalk board that dont make any sense. Dont know where his exam questions come from but a bunch dont apply to the lecture or textbook. Do not take this class.

Comment:
Moustapha is disorganized and does not provide very many materials/external readings. We were only graded by 2 exams and a paper. He is a very passionate professor, but his lectures seem to be a bit random erratic. I appreciated how much he cared about the material, but he didn't seem to care that much about the class.

Diouf's lectures are hard to follow sometimes if you don't use the book. However, his teaching style allows students to discuss multiple topics within the subject matter. If you enjoy watching documentaries, then enroll in the course. He's a big advocate for writing long papers, so expect a 15-20 page research paper due the last week of classes.

Awesome professor! Clearly very intellegent and makes the class enjoyable. My only complaint is that his lectures are unorganized so it's important to stay on top of the readings.

Such a great guy. He SHOWS YOU THE EXAMS before you take them. He passes around a paper for attendance, but if you show up he'll give you 100%. He adds 12-14 points to everyone's exam scores. He gives an optional paper if you want to boost your grade. I ended up with a 100 overall just from attending the class. Overall amazing professor.

He is a very smart man but very confusing. He's not condescending, however he thinks everyone is on his same level of intelligence. He goes off on tangents making it hard to follow, doesn't have a clear lecture plan, doesn't follow the syllabus or use blackboard. It's not a bad class, but involves some figuring out on your part.

He teaches very closely to the text book, so if you don't understand something he is saying, you can easily look it up. It is still important to go to class because there a lot of documentaries and everything is fair game on the 3 exams. Most people make the mistake of skipping class a lot or not studying... don't do that. You can easily get an A.

His accent is very strong, he doesn't use blackboard, his lectures are strictly verbal with some use of the chalkboard but of course his handwriting sucks, too. Your grade is based solely off of 3 exam grades, but he tends to drop the lowest one. He's a nice guy and definitely knows his stuff. He just needs a new teaching style for sure.

Moustapha is clearly passionate about what he teaches. His lectures are interesting and engaging. Although, with his thick accent and terrible handwriting, his lectures are often hard to follow. He also does not use blackboard so it's difficult to keep track of your grades and get in contact with him. He also tends to drop your lowest exam.

His overall approach and love for teaching makes the class enjoyable. I can honestly say he is one of the smartest people I have ever met, and he uses his vast knowledge to convey topics to the students in a clear manner despite his accent and poor handwriting.

He's clearly passionate, but can talk for hours about something that no one in the room understands. Also, lots of documentaries from the '80s. His class is pretty easy though, you just won't learn much.

Awful, awful class. Completely incomprehensible, do not take unless you know anything about world economy and history. I have learned nothing, he does not teach you what he is talking about. Scattered, ZERO STRUCTURE. Grade based on one 5 page reaction and one 20 page research paper. Went to office hours,no help whatsoever. nice guy, HORRIBLE CLASS

Although his tests are somewhat difficult and tricky, he'll usually drop your lowest exam (the class grade was based solely on 3 exams)if you keep improving. Best advice would be to keep persisting and to show him that you are trying, I got a D+ my first game and finished with an A, so don't get way too frustrated after the 1st exam

I'll admit, I was angry at the class because i did poorly on the tests. But really, Moustapha is a cool guy who is smart and knows his stuff. Be warned, he is hard to understand sometimes in class. If you're just taking this for a diversity credit, i would look elsewhere just because of his difficult tests, but its a cool class for sure.

Prepare to be frustrated. Although this class appears straightforward at first, the set-up of exams and use of txt/multimedia/class lecture is somewhat vague and the professor is at times incomprehensible.

WORST professor ever. Tests are hard (all multiple choice) and he tricks you by putting what the book tells you as one answer and what he says in class as another and there is only one that is correct. He is not flexible at all and is hard to understand. Don't take his course!

Moustapha is a nice guy but I really disliked his teaching style. If you're looking for a class in which you'll take away concrete material, stay away from his courses. Every class is essentially an open discussion and class participation is imperative to your grade. When he does lecture, his material is completely scattered and hard to follow.

Incredibly intelligent professor, however his lectures are difficult to follow. He has stimulating ideas but the delivery is a little lacking in organization and comprehensibility. The only coursework was three exams based entirely on the readings, a few things he stresses, and videos we watch in class. An easy introductory course.

He has a heavy accent and at times can be difficult to understand, but he has a complete understanding of sociology. He looks for class participation, and people putting something out there even if wrong. Soc theories in general is boring, but he tries to make it fun. go to class, take some notes, and read the chapters and you'll get a great grade
