An absolutely delightful person who takes a professional interest in your writing and academics and cares about you personally. Not an especially difficult marker, and very lenient if you need extra time to complete work. Just an all-around great guy who really cares about his students. Definitely take classes with him.

He is extreamily helpful, just an amazing person, so carrying. This professor can become your best friend, mentore. He is also very responsible for each of his students. I wish many professors at U of M would love their job just like he loves it....highly recommend him!

Great teacher, great guy! I took Dostoevsky with him. He did a great job guiding us through the books, and all through class discussion. Very understanding about due dates, friendly, cares about students. I would definitely take a class with him again!

His lectures were often plot summary of the novel, and it wasn't until near the end of the term that we started getting into analysis of the novels as a class, but outside of class he is absolutely phenomenal for help. He will develop ideas with you, work with you on your paper, and he is an extremely pleasant person. Highly recommended.

He's great. Opens up a world of literature that is not offered in the Dept of English. His teaching style is fantastic, and he gives a lot of historical and social context to the material we studied. He's lenient on due dates and gives good feedback on papers and presentations.

Hard to know what he wants from his students. Hard marker. (I'm glad the other people on here think otherwise.) He's a nice guy. This is the only class I'm doing subpar in, so believe me when I say he's a "hard marker". It's not me. Class with him is confusing. Not straight-forward.

Great Professor. Kind and funny. If you've always wanted to get through the great Russian novels, let him be your guide - obviously has a great deal of knowledge about Russian culture and history. Also very accomodating about late essays, personal problems, etc. You can tell he finds this lit. really NB on a human level + wants to share them.

He is an amazing prof. He is very knowledgable and passionate about his courses, and is always eager to help you if you need it. He doesn't use his position to stroke his ego like most profs because he is very easygoing and understanding. He will give extensions or helpful advice if you need it.
