Comment:

Nancy Um is an absolute joy to have as a teacher. She poses creative questions and projects and you can tell she thinks of her students highly and treats them as such. She really cares what each individual has to say and she has a lot of experience in her field.

Comment:

Mrs. Um is an amazing professor. She truly loves teaching and if you pay attention, you can actually feel through the artwork she describes. She's funny, caring and dedicated to her students. Gives a lot of pop quizzes and my tip is to take as many notes from her lecture as you can.

As said in some of the other reviews, lecture can be boring unless you are really interested in art history. There are pop quizzes which should be easy if you go to class and pay attention. Going to TA office hours help as they are the ones who actually grade your papers and tests. Midterm and final were all memorization

Comment:

The lectures may get a bit boring but as long as you take good notes about why that piece of art is significant (she explains this thoroughly in lectures) you should do really well on the midterm and final. Pop quizzes are extremely easy and as long as you have a good TA discussion is usually useful.

Comment:

Before starting this course I was not interested in art in any way, but eventually after being in class and completing some of the assignments I developed an appreciation for the artwork. Another affect this class has had on me is I now respect the work that goes into creating the art and what it takes to do some of the jobs in the art profession.

Had Nancy for a scholars course. Did moderately well on the 3 assignments, which counted for 20%, 30%, and 40% (with 10% participation) of the final grade. Great professor who really knows her stuff and art history, but class can be somewhat of a drag if you don't care about the subject. Recommend taking her, but only for a topic you'd love!

Nancy is a great professor, she really specifies the details that you need to know for the exam. I cut quite a few times and managed to get a B+ in Art Hisotry 110,but only because I studied. I would really make sure to get a high grade on the midterm/ 1st Exam because I felt like the final wasn't as bad as the midterm.

Nancy is an incredible teacher! I enjoyed the subject and if I had any questions, I could always talk to her. I would take her class again, she knows what she is talking about: very well informed! Prepares you for all her tests.

I'm in awe of Professor Um. She won't make her course a survey of art history, nor will she make you memorize excessive slides. She will also teach to ensure that your understanding of art history is not from a solely Western perspective. Has amazing perspectives on Middle Eastern and Asian art, would definitely take again.

I really like her, so passionate about her class. She makes me want to actually sees these cool art works and travel around the world. I understand why some people would fall asleep in class, but if you generally like art works (like me) you wont fall asleep. So it really depends are who you are and what you like in terms of the subject.

Really nice lady, wish I had taken her before my senior year, would deff take again if I had time. She's well-read and educated in her area and really makes you want to travel. You don't really need to be doing readings throughout, she tells you which readings will be on the test. Take good notes and you don't need to read at all.

One of my favorite Binghamton professors! She's really passionate about what she teaches. The class was great and the tests were easy if you studied. Make sure you take detailed notes and never fall asleep or text in class, because she will call you out in the middle of lecture.

What an intense professor! She is very passionate about her subject, and can at times come on a bit strong. She is very easily accessible outside of class and is always willing to help. NEVER fall asleep in class and always silence your cell. She will stop class and embarrass you if either, especially sleeping, occurs.

She absolutely adores what she is teaching. She encourages free thinking and is open to your opinion. She is probably one of the most brilliant professors. She is always available outside of class and will thoroughly respond to e-mails. I'm not a huge fan of Islamic architecture but she kept my interest in all aspects of the class.

Love Um! Shes so smart and sweet and funny. Shes so real during her lectures, I love she acts like a normal person and not an uptight professor. Her lectures are interesting and although she doesn't take attendance I would recommend going. She definitely adds energy to room when she talks. Take her class!
