Don't ask him any questions because if he doesn't like your attitude he will lower your grade. He is very unprofessional and shouldn't be teaching anyhwere. HE should stick to just playing music. Most students only like him because he is easy. He also doesn't appear to be very intelligent.

Comment:

Nathan Davis was the worst teacher that I ever had. He lowered my grade because I had questions about how my examination was graded. I, for example, called the "Show Proper" the "Show Itself" and got no credit. He became angry with me and then my listening credits mysteriously disappeared.

This class wasn't the blowoff that everyone said it would be. I got an A because I got the recitation teacher that gave out the midterm and final beforehand. If I didn't have that TA, I wouldnt have gotten higher than a C. You don't need the books. Take this class if you are interested in hearing Nathan Davis brag about his accomplishments in jazz!

He's hillarious and he's very nice. If you are interested in jazz, then it's a good class. If you couldnt care less about jazz, then don't take the class because you will be bored. Go to the review sessions before the midterm and final because he tells you exactly what is gonig to be on the tests.

EASY A! Boring class, but who really cares when you can get an A with such little effort? Write the paper, don't bother with the test. As long as the paper is 8 pages, you'll get an A. Don't buy the books, and no need to even photocopy anything-never even glanced at the books and still got an A in the class (and a 100 on the quiz).

Nice,laid-back guy,but he gets off subject with his "stories" and he uses the term "Triple-X" too much.Don't even buy his books, and dont even go to class..just write the papers, and do the midterm project!He wasn't even there most of the time, and when he was it was like listening to someone going down memory lane because he'll always have a story

Lectures are painful. Don't buy the books, just photocopy the first 15 pages of African American Music. Tests are only hard if you don't study. If you have the notes and are good at memorizing, the tests are a piece of cake. But don't take the test if you don't have all the notes. Easy A.

Prof. Davis very frequently got his historical details in his lectures strikingly wrong. His 6th edition book had major grammatical mistakes and strayed miles from the topic of its chapters. He teaches a very skewed and Afro-centric view of history and frequently will spend half a class telling a pointless story.
