Overall, this was a solid class. The structure is very open to discussion, and she doesn't lead them but rather lets the students decide where the conversation goes as long as it's on track. She will call on you without warning, so pay attention and always go to class. Her 2 exams were take-home, and relatively easy if you paid attention in class.

Seminar was very scattered. Feels like she was always unprepared which led to people rambling. Very boring and dreaded going to this 3 hour class.

Professor Kibria is overwhelmingly underwhelming. Her disinterest in the class made me weep. Very easy to get a good grade but extremely difficult to stay awake. If you want to take this class, dont take it with her.

In her American Family class there are a lot of interesting concepts, but they are not always taught in an interesting way. Basically she doesn't engage people much. A lot of students stopped showing up. Just read the assigned books carefully and don't use flowery language when you write and you should get an easy A.

This was an enjoyable seminar. Manageable amount of reading for a seminar, three essays, and free-flowing discussion. I learned so much about international migration, racial tensions, and class status. Will sometimes end class early. Smart lady, but a little "up in the clouds."

I don't know how she is as a teacher, but she was incredibly unhelpful as an advisor. I asked her advice about grad schools, and got nothing in return. She is on leave this semester, and responded rather brusquely (like I should have known!) when I emailed her about an advising appt. Overall, if you get her as an adivsor, SWITCH.

I love Prof. Kibria. Warning, in this class she is VERY spacey and scattered but you will learn a lot. class is graed based on 3 essays and she will offer to read your drafts. Just pay attention in class, READ THE BOOKS, and youll do well. *She likes simple writing. dont try to be too fancy

Prof. Kibria is a reallly nice woman. She is VERY scattered though. She will help you if you come to office hours but she doesnt go out of her way or anything. 1 midterm exam, 1 midterm essay, 1 final exam and 1 final paper. Her grading on papers are random and its hard to tell exactly what shes looking for... a little too ambiguous but good class.

Explains what she wants you to get from the required texts. This is what will be on the tests. If you go to class, listen to what she says, you will do fine!

Prof. Kibria knows a lot about sociology, but she either doesn't enjoy teaching or is flustered by it. I could never tell whether she was disinterested in the topic or teaching in general, but her lack of enthusiasm sucked the life out of class. Easy paper grading and tests, but a lot of reading. Pretty easy to get an A.

If you are not a sociology major do not take this class. Kibria is nice enough person but she does not reply to emails, explain concepts and tests on the most minute details. While taking about tests how about the fact that she had a multiple choice test where 5 of the answers were "None of the Above". The class material is very out of date

I wasn't all that impressed by her. Material and class were easy enough, but I disagreed with her criteria for grading on the paper and exams. Meh... it was an okay class.

easy class. loves discussion. never did the readings and got an A. just go to class and take good notes because she tests directly from what she says in class. Paper is easy and I barely did anything for it and got an A.

THis was a great class! I learned so much and found the material very interesting. Tests were easy if you take good notes and do the readings (which were easy reads). Your grade is a midterm, a paper, and a final. The paper is pretty easy too.

This class had so much potential, but her lack of enthusiasm seemed to ruin it and I feel like I learned very little. Often we did not know if we were on the right track in discussion. I do suspect she learned from our class how to teach it better.
