The Chief is one of the funniest people on the planet. A bit grumpy at times, but very colorful and very passionate. If you do your work and study hard you'll do fine. His essay test was easy as long as you knew your stuff. If you are a lazy student then he's probably not for you. Otherwise, Dr. Shover is THE MAN!

the chief is AWESOME. i was scared of him the first day... but he loved me so that made things easier for me. take notes on EVERYTHING he says and do ALL of the readings.. if you dont do both.. expect to FAIL. straight essay exams... but if you do the readings and take notes you will be ok.

I was a straight A student in the rest of my Soc classes but I made a C and had to petition to graduate since I took him my last semester. I came to class, did the readings, but be warned, he has an all essay midterm and final for your only grades. He will lock you out if you aren't on time and call you out in class. I hated every minute.

No class struture, dont bother asking questions because you will get shot down and insulted. Spend that time slamming your head into the wall as you ponder why you didnt read this prior to sign up. Enjoy listening to rants and how microsoft is the devil ect. It is like a bad day with grandpa

Impossible. Don't waste your time and money on this man. He's self-righteous and his exams are literally impossible; what he is looking for is ambiguous. He is biased and I will be visiting the department head. Oh, his grading scale is all mucked up. Hate him, will not take another class with this man...ever.

The CHIEF as he likes to call himself is a horrible instructor with a mouth dirtier than a public toilet.Insults students and fails to teach, likes to discuss himself during class time. Got a B but had to go to the dept head to get that grade.

Shover was a very disappointing professor. I was very excited to learn about Criminal Justice but he decided he wanted to only share his stories and not follow a textbook. His language was very colorful- to say the least. The exams were very hard and impossible to study for considering all his lectures were about himself. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS!

Very experienced, professional man that you will learn a lot from in lecture. HOWEVER, don't try to get to know him outside of class. Tried going to his office hours, but he spent the whole time telling me he didn't know why i came and proceeded to call me lazy, strange, slacker, etc. What I get for standing out in class--be invisible & its fine.

The Chief is a no-nonsense, extremely learned man, who an teach you a whole lot if you follow the rules of being a good student. If you show up to class ON TIME, but preferably early, do the assigned readings, and take goods notes, you'll be fine. He seems tough, but he's honestly one of the most motiviating profs I've ever had.

The Chief is an amazing teacher. Though he comes off tough at first the man isn't so bad.Class is intense and since there is no textbook, attendance is crucial.There is no syllabus so you have to keep up with your readings. You'll get alot out of his class.Also be on time...which is 5 minutes before class starts or you will be locked out!!!

The "chief" knows his stuff! When he lectures you can tell that he is an experienced and smart man; his examples and rants will entertain you as well as help you with your required readings. My favorite professor so far at UT. Just don't take his rambles *too* seriously... =P
