Comment:
Took Landsman for several classes as an undergraduate (American Colonial Society, American Revolution, Origins of Religious Liberty in America, and a senior research seminar on the Founding Fathers), and he was my adviser in grad school. One of the best professors I've ever had. Fair workload and grader, and very helpful

His class was the worst 53 minutes of my day. Super boring and repetitive. first midterm is a couple essays (unfairly graded) the second midterm is take home 4-6 pages long. Lots of reading. seemed to make a class that shouldnt be that hard a lot harder than it had to be.

Is this class the most fun class ever? No. But, you will get a good grade. THE TESTS ARE EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE STUDY GUIDES.

Definitely a good class to take for american history. he is very knowledgeable and the class isn't all that difficult. the text books were cheap and straightforward, i wrote one paper all semester and had 1 test and NO HOMEWORK. I'd take him again for another class if i get the opportunity.

Very drone in tone ,however very knowledgable on the subject. If you show up and do the few things assigned, you will be fine.

Prof. Landsman is an excellent professor. He is clear, organized, and very thorough in his lectures. If you come to class and take good notes, you'll be fine. He's a very nice guy who is always willing to help his students. His exams are fair. I took several classes with him and am glad I did.

This class was TERRIBLE. Lectures are watching paint dry. Boring and not clear on what the professor wanted. Overall very boring.

I took this class in the spring of 2010, but I still remember how enjoyable it was. He cracked a few jokes and when I went to his office for clarification he was extremely helpful. He helped boost my confidence by making difficult concepts relatively easy to understand and fun to learn. Great professor, and I had a great TA too

He's boring and slow to get to the point, rarely ever finishes his lectures, and rambles a lot... But he's not so bad I guess. 1 midterm, a paper, and 1 final. Attendance isn't mandatory but go and TAKE NOTES! He assigns a ton of reading. Notes will save your ass, trust me.

It should be easy but he makes it difficult. He's a bit repetitive in his lectures and its hard to focus as if he dances around the problem and at the end of it all little by little gives the solution.

if you do the work you should get a decent grade. he can be very confusing at times and somedays he is very eager to help and others it seems as if your bothering him. If you love history before 1800, he is the professor for you, but if your looking for a DEC or a fun class PASS

he does have a boring voice and a lot of the time it felt more like listening to a rambling teacher than learning anything, but it was a pretty easy A. landsman gives 3 books to read. a couple were interesting. there's a 4th bk which is the txtbk. you don't need to read it if you take good class notes.

If you decide to take this class for your skill 4 requirement, do yourself a favor and make sure he isn't the one teaching it. His voice is monotone, and he doesn't teach in a very engaging way. I barely showed to lectures all semester. Go to your recitations though, they're more helpful. My TA was Ryan Shaffer, and I learned more from him.

It's unrealistic to think that you can keep up with the reading-we had at least 2 chapters & 1 whole book (150-200 pages) every week. His lectures are extremely boring and vague; you don't know what's important until 2 days prior when he gives a review sheet. He is an easy grader though and it's an easy A if you do the reading and go to every class

If English is not your First Language(especially Chinese Korean, Janpanese), !!!DO NEVER CHOOSE THIS COURSE!!!The professor and TA are nice, but a lot words and reading. And the most important thing is, we really have no idea what is American hitory.

Have him for the American Revolution class. He is monotone bur Since I'm into the subject, it doesn't bother me. Easy courseload with only reference text which coincides with lectures and a document book. Very nice guy as well: he let me type up my in class midterm for full credit when he could not read my handwrtining on the origional.

I gave Landsman a C+ for effort. He is very bright and he seems passionate about the topic, but hes so boring. He speaks in a monotone voice and recitation with him is a snore. The class is easy just one midterm paper a short exam and a final. If you can make it through painfully boring lectures then take this class.
