This course is inherently hard and boring. Paul tried to make it as interesting as possible. I went to other profs' sections and they were not any better. If anything, Paul was much better. Oh well.. too bad he retired in 2010. :(

Guy tries to keep class interested with flashy visuals on powerpoint presentations. Extremely boring material and assignments can be tough for the not-so-tech savvy, but he will provide more than enough support if you ask him.

By no means a bad instructor, its just the course is so damn boring and dry. Nice guy, and seems to know his stuff. He certainly does his best to make it all interesting, and the occasional breaks are nice, but... its computer programming. The only people who are gonna have a hard on with this material are people going into computer engineering.

He tries his best to make the subject matter more interesting but sometimes he has trouble keeping control of the class which is sort of acceptable considering how boring the class is

He was an alright prof, but the course was just so damn dry. Ends up being an easy course because the vast majority of people don't care so the averages are pretty low. I literally opened the text book only once to peek through and found it useless (don't buy it), his notes are pretty good though.

EnCmp isnt a very cool subject but Iglinski tries his best to make it a good experience. You can easily do good in this class: 1) Buy the Notes 2) Attend the lectures (what may seem obvious is only obvious cause you went to the lecture-very hard catching up) 3) Do the Assignments 4) MOST IMPORTANTLY- Lookup Old Exams!! Questionss are repeated!!

He was a good teacher, but this was a very dry class. If you buy the notes at the start, then you can miss quite a few lectures. The midterm and final are fairly easy, look at WebCT for old exams, as these were the most helpful in preparing. Good luck staying motivated and awake for anyone who is about to take this class.

The best advice is probably just to buy the notes at the EE club..I did only 3 of 6 assignments, and only attended the first couple classes, but it doesn't matter if you don't understand a thing about programming cause the exams are quite a cinch. Read the package of notes once or twice over and you'll ace this course for sure.

the sandman was useful in that he replied to emails, and he truly did his best to try to teach the material, But wow, just wow. This guy's lectures could make someone sleep through world war 3. It isn't his fault the material is dry though. There is no way around that with C++. Overall he's a good prof.

Great prof, terrible class. He's a good lecturer and the superior of the two EnCmp 100 profs, but man does the class suck. He is extremely helpful and can e-mail you back hints on how to fix your programs on the assignments, but his lectures aren't really much more than the powerpoint presentations. Mind you, it's a programming course...

Ever had a prof give you hints AFTER the assignment was due? I skipped most of his classes, because he isn't much of a facilitator for his powerpoint lecture notes THAT ARE AVAILABLE ONLINE.

well...why would you expect excitement in a programing lecture ! ... labs were fun to do ... lecture did not make sense until we applied it in the lab ... great professor ... very helpful... he would actually ask you for your code over the weekend, run it for ya on his computer at home and find the mistakes and suggest solutions ...

buy the book, and buy the course notes. then take all your math homework to his class. it's the only reason i got anything done. for those of you in math 102 take your lab to class and get it done...it'll save you an hour. beware of pointers:(

The most boring man on the planet. I've drank 5 cups of coffee and still fallen asleep in that guys class. If you're planning on going to his lectures, bring some real work along so you might actually stay awake the whole time. If you want to learn programming, it's not happening with this guy.
