Keen, tough, smart professor. Expect to learn some great intro statistics. Many may complain about Dr. Silver, but I thought him to be Amazing! As a student of his you could begin by paying attention, could start by writing down your notes as you follow his lectures. Then, correspond these with his textbook pages. Finally, you're good to passing :)

I tried really hard in this class, but it was never enough. The joking around came to be too much and his teaching style did not work for me. Textbook gave me no more help as he did write it, so it was the exact same thing as in class. When my homework was marked it was unclear. Biggest problem was never knowing what my grade was.

The whole semester I had no idea what my grade was, he never posts them. I still don't know my grade. He cracks jokes which made the class more enjoyable, but the lectures weren't clear at all. The first time I went to clarify something by looking back at my textbook, I realized, HE WROTE IT. The textbook is word for word what he says in class.

Comment:
I'm taking his online 350 class, and he is easily one of the worst professors I've taken. He does little to nothing for this class. All he does is post video lectures where he simply reads from the presentation, and tells you to read the obnoxious 40+ text pages a week. His grading is very unpredictable. Exams cover random, irrelevant questions.

Dr. Silver never answered any questions in class coherently, finding him during office hours didn't help either. Expects you to know what he is talking about, never really explains anything in a way that's understandable. Tests had nothing to do with what was mentioned in lecture or in the book.

He was an okay professor, and we got along well. Silver always gives you study guide before all his exam (though pestering him about it is also sometimes necessary), but all his exam are graded base on a Z-score (you will love it). He loves and I mean LOVE baseball and dad joke. If you are decent at math, espeically word problem, you'll get an A.

This professor definitely wrote some of the better reviews here himself. Trust me when I tell you this isn't the class to take. This class is unecessarily filled with information that distracts from understanding the material and no attempt by the professor to cut away the excess and get to teaching in a mpre progressive and engaging manner.

The lectures, as well as the textbook, provide you with all the info necessary to pass the class. There is 3 quizzes and about 11 homework assignments. For each quiz, he gives out a study guide with any vocab and concepts that will be on it. As long as you study and memorize, you will do great! Overall, a really amazing professor!

This professor is always ready and eager to help you with anything you need. He doesnt make you feel stupid or anything like the other people said about him. If I were you, Id take his class over any other professor teaching stats at UNLV. You need to be prepared to study and really learn the martial and youll be okay since he grades on a curve

Dr. Silver is an excellent teacher and VERY knowledgeable too. He is always available after class to give us extra help with the material that he teaches in class. He is VERY patient and stays with us as long as we need, answering questions until we all understand. I truly appreciate his support and outstanding service!

Trust me, I was on this website like you. Most of these reviews are pretty tough on the guy. His lectures are full of jokes, they follow the textbook (he wrote the textbook), and he wants everyone to understand. Homework is extra credit, you're graded based on an average of the class on 3 quizzes. If you show up to class, you'll have a good shot.

Dr. Silver is very misunderstood. He was my primary undergrad mentor. We published three papers and 10 conference proposals together. He is best-fitted for students pursuing graduate school. If you're just looking to breeze through statistics, this is not the professor for you. Take him to gain a deep stats background for analyst job applications.

As a senior graduating/going to grad school, he's the worst professor I've had at UNLV. I had him for 210/350, dropped 210 after the first test and got a D- BOTH times I took 350. He's an extremely tough grader, I studied/watched every lecture and didn't pass. He sent me home from office hours for coughing. I'm have a 3.5 so I'm not bad student.

The class and lecture was not at all hard. I love math and find it to be very easy so it wasn't at all difficult. Although the professor was very knowledgeable, he's not good with students. I'd avoid him at costs. Hes unhelpful and doesnt seem willing to help other students who are struggling in his class. Ill say it again, avoid taking his classes

When I registered for this class I read the reviews on here and thought, "He couldn't possibly be THAT bad". I'm warning you now that he is and to take these reviews seriously. He is by far the worst professor I have ever had in my four years in college. He doesn't care about his students and makes the class extremely difficult for no reason.

The best thing about this class is that there is a huge curve on the three exams that make up almost your entire grade. The down side, the reason there is this curve is because they are impossibly hard. Dr. Silver is a pompous, egotistical, tough, and uncompromising man. Don't waste your time going to him for help. My advice, take a different prof.

The only reason Dr. Silver is getting a 1/5 is because a 0/5 isn't an option. Avoid taking him as a professor as if your life depended on it. He is rude and offers nothing to students other than belittling them to make himself feel big. He makes this class way harder than it should be for an intro psych class. I'm a senior and it was beyond hard.

It seems as if Dr. Silver makes this introductory class much harder than it should be. The video lectures provided are boring. The textbook is very wordy and unclear. The grading and homework system are a bit confusing and unhelpful. If anything, I strongly recommend taking this class with another professor. He's knowledgeable, but not at teaching.

Personally, if you study & do the homework you should be able to pass this class. Study vocabulary word for word, and going to class is needed. Get a study group going on, he makes jokes that are funny but the tests are based on memorization. By far the hardest and challenging teacher I've taken so far, but study two weeks before and you will pass
