Actually a quiz every other day actually. Actually the lectures themselves actually are actually poorly delivered. He seems to get nervous and lectures like that. Unfortunately this is AI and the work is constant and the projects aren't difficult but do require you to do most of the research on your own. Other classwork? Too bad.

Sometimes there are two or three things due the same day. There isn't a single day without AI work of any kind, including weekends. The professor isn't very helpful in lecture

The professor is VERY smart but this doesn't correlate to his ability to teach. You have reading assignments due before every lecture and quizzes every other. Lectures go off the rails and topics are rarely reinforced. Assignments aren't bad if you know how to search google/youtube for people who will teach you what you need to know. Good luck!

Comment:
This class is bad in so many ways. Projects are given the day after a previous project is due. There are quizzes, assistments problems (the professor's proprietary system), and reading the same days that projects are due. It would be ok if the work was helpful, but it seems like a lot of it is just busy work. Also, the TA's write all the projects.

Wow. Just wow. There are too many bad things to say about this course with this prof to fit in this box. Don't ever take it with him. He doesn't teach. He quizzes you on a chapter of reading per day (which he may cover AFTER the quiz if you're lucky). It's ironic that his area of research is in learning, since no one learned anything from him

Wow, I've never seen anyone say the word "actually" that much. And once you notice it, there is no way you will be able to ever pay attention to his class again. The person who sat next to me would actually spend the entire class counting how many actuallys the Professor said, which I found hilarious.

Heffernan actually uses the word 'actually' actually way too many times, actually. He teaches the course as if we were using C instead of Java. He doesn't want students to use code which he doesn't understand-- ArrayList is right out until two weeks from the end of term, since it is black magic, doncha know?

This professor seems to know his stuff, and makes the class interesting. The projects are very difficult, but I found that I learned a lot from them. He does give way too much work though, and in our class he acknowledged this and kind of shrugged off our "weekly reading" assignments. All in all he's kind of crazy, but a smart and nice guy.

Expects A LOT OF WORK. Difficult subject matter. His verbal pauses are incredibly irritating at times.

I'm pretty sure he just thinks about how long a project will take you and subtracts a week and gives you that long. Also, he seems to be very unwilling to give partial credit on his test, which are, btw, rediculous.

Assigns tons of work, but always willing to help students. Only take a class with him if you're _really_ interested in the subject matter - he'll make sure you learn it!

He assigns way too much reading - it all becomes a blur. Also, the tools he forces students to use are underdeveloped and nearly ruin the class.

Unfortunately thinks he is too smart or something. So, if you don't know anything abt the subject, you may have a nice experience. If not, it may be terrible.
