A brilliant man, inquire to your heart's content. Teaches in a non-specific conceptual way. Can be difficult to follow in class sometimes especially if you miss a lecture. Take concise notes in class but only after you grasp the big picture that is being drawn. ASK ABOUT DISTINGUISHING FACTORS FOR SPECIFIC AUTOMATA. Ask the living book anything.

csci 580 - Security: Is very good at explaining the big picture of complex concepts--and has the detailed knowledge and experience to back it all up. Course mostly involved coming to class and listening. Tests were essay and covered your conceptual understanding--not memorization.

Nobody told me he did ESSAY EXAMS. Yuck! Worst kind of exam. Did not give many projects, and they were fairly easy, but just 2 exams-MT and final-made up 80% of grade! Rickert should add 1 more MT +/or quiz. Doesn't give out practice exams, or have bonus questions or EC. He's a nice guy, but doesn't deserve reputation that he's a nice -TEACHER-.

Rickert is such an awesome teacher. He may seem a bit goofy, but the guy is a genious, a human book. Ask him just about anything and he can pull it right up and write about it forever. He is easy to learn from and likes to have you write essays instead

He seems to know everything and can teach anything. Very helpful. Light course load and *very* open-ended; we had 4 questions on our 2-hour final, so he's a bit surreal (but in a good way). Good luck at guessing what he'll teach next.
