Comment:
For EME 115, the textbook is required. And for good reason, it's a fantastic book, easy to read and comes with bunches of practice tests. Unfortunately, it's $140 and not online anywhere (when I took the class). Still highly recommend this class. Math is easy and concepts are interesting (it's how computers solve math problems)

Best math prof I have had at Davis so far. His lectures are clear, enthisiastic, and not overly-theoretical with lots of examples. Homework is not mandetory. The exams are very doable, he doesn't make them more difficult than they need to be. The class is pre-curved, with a C- starting around 50%. Definitely take Jensen for any class if you can.

Professor Jensen is a really really good professor! His lectures are really clear, and he answers questions in class really well. He's open to criticism and adjusted his test difficulty according to how the class was doing. Make sure you do the homework, as test questions are usually based off of them. Take him if you get the chance!!

I didn't go to any lectures for this class but watched MIT strang's linear algebra online lectures, and did some questions from the hw the day before the test and passed with a C. HW is optional. Isn't a hard class if you stay on top of your work. No practice test for us because it was his first time teaching this class, tests were straightforward

Professor Jensen was a really good teacher. He graded on a preset curve and made his grading very clear. His exams were straightforward and based off of homework - understand his own worked out solutions. Do the homework and attend lecture and you should be fine. Grading was based off of only 3 exams (final was 60%). I would for sure take him again

I straight up love this guy! He is very funny and a great professor. He is always straight to the point in his lectures and warmly welcomes questions and critiques. I got an A in this class with moderate work. Class averages were pretty high, no curve needed. Very good prof.

I'm not much of a lecture person, but when I went to his office hours he seemed to answer my questions quite well. He made his third midterm extremely easy (essentially example problem from the textbook) because lots of people did poorly on second midterm. The class wasnt too hard cause he adjusted his exams in such a way. Good experience for me.

Well, people were doing bad on tests, so he made our last test and final really easy to bring up our grades. Tried to bring up grades by requiring discussion, but there was no participation grade, so still nobody went. Overall he is a smart dude, not that difficult of a class. Nice guy.

The class is time consuming! Material is not too hard, but you must understand all the lengthy HW. He'll help you in OH. A cheat sheet is allowed on tests, so put all the formulas from the textbook. Grade distribution: HW 10%, MT1 10%, MT2 15%, Final 65%. He has a fixed grading scale: 81% A, 66% B, 51% C. Good luck, or take stats instead.

Tough subject, but taught systematically. Was approachable for questions and made sure you understood what you were asking before you left. HW 10%. Midterm 1 10%. Midterm 2 15%. Final 65%. Make sure you are familiar with your SIMPLE calculator.

This class is not easy. BUT very fair. Professor teaches the material through proofs, so get familiar with reading the language of math. Upside: tests are not based on proofs, only problems. If you put hard time into it and don't fall behind, you should be fine. Not easy but highly do-able. and DON'T FALL BEHIND

This class for integral calculus is hard and he makes it even harder because the tests are unpredictable. You are lucky if you are passing as there is no credit for partially correct answers and no way to prepare for his tests

Comment:
Excessively rough with his students. Extremely hard midterms unrelated to course homework. Final was even harder with about half of the material not even covered in course on final. Class avg on midterms is 25-30% and around 10-15% on finals as problems are multi part and he thinks it's the end of the world to give partial credit. No curve.

This is a difficult subject, but he is very systematic in teaching it. Probably one of the best proof-oriented lecturers I've had. The tests require no proofs however, though they are still difficult (make sure you know how to use your calculator quickly). Overall, I recommend the class if you are interested in learning numerical methods PROPERLY.

Tests and hw are ridiculous hard, no credit if you get the wrong answer, no explanation or examples in class. He wrote his "text", which is same as lectures, no help at all. He gives sample hw and tests from previous years, but not ONE of the solutions tells you HOW to get the solution. Very poor professor, avoid this class.

Although I received an A in this class, I DO NOT RECOMMEND anyone who values their GPA to take this class. Taking this class is basically asking for a lower GPA. The tests were like written in a different language or something. They were EXTREMELY difficult.

really HARD exams! And his curve makes you can't get an A at all even though you did really hard to prepare. If you want to get good grades, AVOID him! If you think your GPA is too high, then try him!

Jensen is a VERY clear professor and he is very direct about his ideas and what he expects from you. He focuses on computational problems rather than proofs. He may have an intimidating personality at first, but when you come to his office hours he is very patient and willing to help you with any problem!
