There are three big in-class tests. Every test/quiz is in essay format. Power-points are posted on BB without info so come to class and take heavy notes or record the lectures . Nora is a great professor and she has descriptive and interesting lectures . The class is difficult but not impossible. Memorize everything. Good luck.

Professor Laos has very interesting lectures, she's very helpful if you have any questions. Tests are written essays, which aren't too difficult. You will have to remember the name of the architect, the name of the building. the date it was built and its location.

She is very knowledgable about everything she teaches and her lectures are very interesting, but the tests are pretty intense. The information that you need to know for the exams is overwhelming for sure, so you have to study really hard. Overall, I did like her as a person and a professor.

Nora knows her subject really well, gives great lectures and is funny and engaging. She takes time to understand her students and gives specific and valuable feedback on exams! There is a richness in her classes which students (overwhelmed with studio-work) often miss the opportunity to appreciate & benefit from! Take her classes !

Was in her class before for the past 6 years ago. Now I get a chance to come back to rate my professor. She is great and very helpful to students. She is never ignore a question or a concern from students. This college is very fortune to have her and continues to keep her here it is a smartest decision. She is awesome! Kind of hard, many readings but worth it. Any of her classes are perfect to take along any studio, they are challenging enough but not impossible or too time consuming. Go to class and you'll be fine, study and you'll do well. She crazy stories that you will never forget.

Comment:

One of my favorite professors. For the history classes its good to record the lectures and find a way to compare slides with the lectures in a memorable way. Its a class that goes into detail but is also pleasantly concise. I remember nearly everything I learned, its been a year. 3 or so tests, 2 in class essays that usually allow creativity!

Such a boring class I can never stay awake in it. Took it for my fine arts credit and it's so much work. There's no homework or any busy work like that but trying to memorize 30 buildings, their locations,architects, years, and information on them per test is a drag especially if you have no interest in architecture. That being said its doable just not very fun or interesting. Test are 4 essays involving 8/30 buildings.

Comment:

Nora is a great teacher. Her classes are all about taking notes and I used my computer to record her lectures. The test are essay questions while looking at pictures and making comparisons. I was so happy to take her classes and made me very excited about architecture. Go Coogs!

Clearly presented, well planned class. The lectures are entertaining as well. She's easy to talk to. I would definitely recommend her. I wouldn't say it's a piece of cake class at all. 3 exams- id buildings, concepts; 2 essays- topic varies, It's a fun challenging class.

Comment:

She obviously knows her stuff but my experience in one of her most intimate classes was downright disappointing. Hates to be contradicted, or asked questions of which she knows little about. Has obvious favourites and is condescending towards those she deems enemies of "pure" francophone culture, re: immigrants. Be careful.

Her lectures are interesting and you should attend them since she bases the tests on them. The textbook by Ching is utter sht, take out the one by Hyman and Trachtenberg from the library instead - it has everything she says. Tests are super easy, just memorize the dates+names the day before the exam.

A pure memorization class, one of the rare history classes you are required to memorize specific dates (and lots of them at that). Every graded assignment is written in-class. The required textbook hardly helps you at all, everything on the test is directly from her lectures and she talks a million words a minute, hope you can write/type fast.

I just wish the colllege had more teachers teaching this class. I dont find her to be very helpful. And her grading seems rather unfair...No matter if you tried.
