Tricky for non-English majors. Dr. Heath is very passionate about his subject but is extremely hard to please, even if you're a "good writer." Just when you think you get it, he'll bring in a new twist. As dept chair, he's helpful but tough to track down outside class. The writing skills you learn go beyond essays, so don't take the class lightly.

I was less than thrilled with Dr. Heath as a professor. I think that he is definitely a great guy, but he didn't really help me improve my writing skill. Everything I learned I observed from the essays we read by other authors. Constant metaphors=confusion! He also outright yelled at a girl in my class who became frustrated with his contradictions

Dr. Heath is great. I always looked forward to Advanced Comp. He likes to teach in an entertaining way. My writing greatly improved in his class. Although he is hard to track down because he is the chair of the Lang/Lit department, he is a really neat guy to get to know. I would recommend Heath without reservation.

Dr. Heath made a huge difference in my academic life! My writing improved a great deal in Advance Composition and so did my morale. Dr. Heath really listens to his students and is one of the few professors who is encouraging when you challenge "the bubble" in your writing.
