Comment:

He taught based on his opinion and contradicted the book. He would say "the book says this, but I think blah blah". Then the exams would be a mixture of his opinions and the books facts. He graded very harshly, and did not curve. He had us reading 30+ pages per night. Not helpful if you go into to talk to him.

He is impossible to please, and would insult us and call us terrible students. He assigns a lot of research articles to read, along with much of the textbook, and expects you to ask questions about them. His written tests are difficult, and he expects way too much out of us. AVOID AT ALL COST!

I have taken two classes with him, and in both cases, the readings he gives are rarely interesting, and I have difficulty staying awake for them, but when it comes to in class lecture/discussions, I was very interested. He seems fairly set in his ways, and will deny any evidence that he may be wrong, but is overall very helpful.

I thought he was a horrible teacher. I went to drop his class because i couldnt stan to listen to him, and he went on a tangent yelling at me for being selfish because i deprived other people the priveledge of being able to take his class. He is rude, and definitely not for me!

Lit. of Madness is a very interesting class, but there is a ton of reading to do each night and a final paper where you need 20+ sources... 'nuff said. Although the class is extremely hard for a lit. class, you can't dock Brophy on helpfulness or clarity.

He is really old and likes to tell stories about his life. His tests are all short answer; which means that you're going to write a paragraph or two for each of the 8 to 10 questions. He expects you to read around 40 pages a night. Most of the stuff is interesting, but completely useless.

He's very opinionated and if you disagree with him, you're doomed. Also, if you're not a speed-reader, don't plan on getting much sleep. He assigns about 20 printed pages of reading a night, half of which are the most boring articles you'll ever read. And the study guides, if you get one, are made of 100 possible questions.

He rambles so much in class so it's impossible to tell if he's rambling or teaching, so you have no idea what's going to be on the tests. He does tend to repeat questions, but he also switches books almost every year. Half way into the class it changes from psych to a bio course. His study guides for the tests are pretty much a waste of time.

Okay, here's the deal...yes, he expects you to do work. But, I have to disagree on the hard tests. He uses almost the EXACT tests from quarter to quarter... all you have to do is look at a test from the previous quarter. But, he is rude and likes to tear people down. Oh, and if you're a girl... cover yourself and sit in the back... he's a perv.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Assigns ridiculous amounts of work, grades hard as hell, hardest tests I've ever seen in my life. Dropped his class because it was ridiculous. You might get a B if you crawl deep up his ass, but other than that, you're doomed.

His tests are rediculous, they don't reflect the class, I got a b+ and never read but studied the notes, he grades on favorites, overall I will avoid his classes at all cost. I think he trys to insult each person in the class at least once per class, So you will have to be able to take it.

Rude, awkward, vulgar, sadistic. There is a reason that in his 3 classes, he only had 50 out of 90 cap, and half of those drop out the first week. I got one of the best grades, and can say that his tests are ridiculous. Don't take unless you want to memorize 200-250 pages of material for each test.

This guy is a horrible advisor. He knows nothing about the school curricula and hindered my plan for a double major rather than helping. He advised me not to overload. I did and kept a good GPA. He's a worthless advisor, so if you have him, get out!

Wow, a prof that expects students to *gasp* READ the book? This class is not that hard as long as you read and study a little bit. Everyone always gets angry when they actually have to read a little bit, but that's just way any psychology should be; a lot of reading. Brophy definitely expects it too
