Comment:
She is a clever and witty free thinker that breaks the mold. Obviously Oxford educated and American kids are not use to real college lectures. I thought there was too much reading but its that British education for sure. Hilden is a classic Berkeley professor in the true sense of CAL.

Hilden is one of the best professors around and is often misunderstood because she is a true intellectual. Although she might not be an entertaining speaker, she is a brilliant thinker and scholar with very powerful ideas about women and race. She earned my respect for sure.

While I was interested in course materials her lectures were unengaging and her snide remarks seemed uninformed and disingenous. She was quite condescending when i visited her in office hours, not approachable at all. The dept. seems like a friendlier and more welcoming place now that she's gone.

I really enjoy going to this lecture. She is extremely interested and very knowledgable. Very interesting readings. Claims of not being open are just given in defensiveness...she is very willing to talk to you and very easy to approach. I really like her and the class. If you have an interest in the subject you will love it, and may interest others

she was a crappy lecturer, very boring. she assigns readings but doesnt connect them to the lecture, except one book, joaquin murrieta. just go to lecture, your notes are your only hope to pass the midtern..shes very feminist and loves to talk about her and her life as an indian

Comment:
very unorganized in her syllabus, readings are not relevant, midterms mostly on lecture, which is boring. She never finishes her lectures, she brings in many personal stories whish are not relevant. More of a native american course, then ethnic studies. Tries to make jokes, but shes not really funny. Boring

Comment:
-Works from a white, economic-reductionist, womanist framework -Uses the term "Mexican" without distinguishing race/class differences amongst Mexicans -Is oblivious to queer theory -Oprah-fies black women in academia -Attacks Chicanos in a national context of anti-Mexican hysteria -Gossips about students with other students

Comment:
she is very biased and only sees issues from one side. her lectures come off angry and hateful. Trails off on tangents quite frequently. Her interpretation of ethnic studies tries to force her own opinion upon her students and does not provoke critical thinking.

Comment:
rants more than lectures. is incoherent and angry. tries to be sarcastic but comes off as very vicious and intolerant. if students question her she demeans them and shuts of possibility of conversation. i have taken several ethnic studies courses and she is definately not representative of other courses offered in that department

she was a very sweet and lovely woman, a great and funny, sarcastic funny lecturer, love to hear to make fun of the 'unbelievable' westernization of america to the native people. readings were wonderful, though too many, but easy to read and to understand. it was great, she was great, can't say the same about the gsi, they were okay.
