Comment:
Professor Richard is very knowledgeable in her subject, but she grades very hard. You are also graded on your participation, and if you dont talks A LOT you will get a poor participation score. Her tests are also unreasonably hard, and she grades the term paper as if shes looking for perfection. Overall I was disappointed with her grading style.

Whew! Talk about a lot of work, but boy was it an engaging, thorough class. The amount of passion this woman exceeds for American History is bar none. However, by just having the book and doing the assignments will not save you! You must show up for class and she does not post her lecture notes online, so make a friend and write fast.

Truly a great professor. Her lectures are passionate and intriguing. She follows the Universities attendance policy, but if you miss a lecture you miss out on the notes - which are very helpful. Not heavy text use but if you want a good grade on the exam, I would read the book. Always hands out organized study guides. Great teacher-lots of fun.

This was probably one of the most challenging history classes I have taken; however, it was also one of the most rewarding classes I have taken. Dr. Richards is so passionate about her field that she's not going to hand you free credit, you have to work for it. Take this class if you're actually interested in an education rather than a diploma.

Comment:
Dr. Richard's course was fairly engaging, and her expectations of students were very clear. She's pretty heavy on taking attendance. Even if she wasn't, if you don't show up you won't pass because 100% of test material is covered in the lectures. Sit in the front of the class because she grades participation harshly.

I took Prof. Richard's class as a correspondence course. As with all correspondence classes there is a lot of reading. However, Prof. Richard chooses her textbooks well. All of the readings are really interesting. As a matter of fact, I wish I still had my textbooks, and I intend to order one from Amazon that we only had some readings from.

Have to show up to pass... Does not put any powerpoints on BB so you have to show up to take notes or you have no idea what is going on. Great energetic teacher that cares about all of the students.

She is very knowledgeable on the Civil War. Very passionate about what she does and gets the entire class in the discussion of lectures. If you normally don't talk in class, you will fail she grades harshly on participation even though she doesn't take attendance she knows if you're there or not. HARDEST quizzes and tests ever taken so study!!

She is very helpful. You have two big papers and the rest is participation grade which you must do more than half because then she will fail you if you don't participate in the discussions.

I LOVE her! She is such an amazing teacher! I've learned more history in just one semester of her class than I have in my whole entire life! She is my inspiration for becoming a history major because of all of her knowledge. She's very exciting and includes the whole class in her lectures. Take her class and it will make you LOVE history, I promise

I took women in US History online with prof. Richard. She didn't contribute anything to the class. All of the discussion questions were straight out of the book, no supplemental notes, videos or other materials. I left this class feeling like I paid an awful lot to read a book. incredibly disappointing.

I loved professor Richard! Her knowledge of the Civil War is tough to beat. There was a ton of information presented over the whole course so I would highly recommend showing up frequently. 2 quizzes, midterm, final, and a 8 page research paper for the whole grade. Take Richard, you won't be disappointed.

Dr. Richard is an amazing professor. I'm not sure where any of these negative ratings came from on this site! Her class is challenging but it's rewarding. And for those of you who complain of the level of challenge are ridiculous! You can't learn without proper challenge. Great professor with a large amount of knowledge!

She hard, but fair. The course is hard on it own, but Dr. Richard really tries to get the student involved. She does like to scream alot, but if you go to class you will understand why. Pretty hard quizzes and the last paper is a doozy.

Comment:
Tests are unnecessarily hard; class time is mainly spent taking notes nonstop (no exaggeration); she is LOUD, often shouting at the class in a raised voice during lectures, loves to shout "South Carolina" while stamping her foot; clearly sees herself as being above the students; overly concerned w/ women's roles in all subjects, you've been warned

I have taken Dr. Richard for Civil War, Vietnam, and Film as Social History. All 3 classes were fantastic, she is one of the best professors I've ever had! She is a gold mine of knowledge and has so much passion for the subjects she teaches. Tests are difficult so study a lot, take notes, show up and pay attention, and you'll do just fine!

She was the hardest professor I've had, her class was taught as if we were all majoring in history. She is brutally honest and expects perfection with EVERYTHING. Do not take if you hate history.
