These reviews bothered me so much that I had to write one. Pat Sandback changed my life as a dancer. I went in despising modern dance and realized I was the one who was close-minded. My eyes were opened up to a whole new world of movement. I had to stop fighting what I knew, and embrace some different ideas. Pat is an incredible gift.

Comment:

She does not tolerate any flexibility in style and does not allow much emotion. Even if you have trained for years she will make you re-learn steps HER way, which is extremely academic. She is unclear with the assignments, and there is too much work for only being a 2 unit class. She also grades way too strict and favors students she knows better.

I wish more students opened their eyes to the wonderful person Pat is. She is full of life and extremely funny. Just move past the way she teaches and you wil love her. Such a creative/colorful mind and a true artist..you just need to give her a chance to see it. I love pat!

Took a beginning ballet class at a junior college. Way better! Sandback does not do ballet any justice. She wanted us to wear socks at the barre and not ballet shoes, bad sign. She taught a weird ballet/jazz. Her barre exercises were dumb/useless, floor exercises were mediocre. Don't take her, learn ballet somewhere else.

In my personal opinion, she needs to retire. She gives unclear assignments, does not listen to her students, and grades with a bias. She does have some valuable information to share but it is torture trying to find it. Good luck if you have her, don't give her any trouble or you'll have a very difficult semester.

no freedom, very picky, inconsistent. she knows a lot of stuff which is great but she really needs to retire bec a bit out of date and not enough movement. the whole program is really modern, she is an okay lady but the program needs a fresh younger person to push the dancers more

I hated this class! She was horrible when it came 2 modern. Hardly any positive feedback...her grading is off the walls... U couldnt show up for a bunch of classes & learn the routine n are good ull get a good grade..I hardly ever missed class n turned in everythin but b/c ive never taken modern i sucked at it..She needs 2 retire immediately!!

Great teacher, but very nit-picky. Very hard on you, which is a good thing. It prepares you for the real world. If you have a problem with that and you want to be a dancer, somethings wrong with you and you shouldn't have her as a teacher until you grow up

Ballet: She is a good teacher but she skips over some basics. Class is easy, just show up and try - don't half ass. True she is more into modern dance, but if you are taking an instructional class there is no need to worry about creativity.

I thought she was very close minded in choreography and music choices. When picking a song for any project she must approve it, so basically dont pick anything that has a beat...jon cage good choice.
