Easiest A I have ever gotten in Davis. Little time commitment and I'm a little disappointed because I dont think I'll ever find a class this easy anymore. 11/10 recommended. Take the ONLINE class. SO easy.

This class was an easy A. Since it was an online class, there was little time commitment. I really enjoyed this class because the "lectures" were very interesting and easy to understand. Show up to discussion and do the weekly homework and you will do fine. The TAs for this class are basically your professor so ask them for help on the exams.

I took the online version of this class and it was SO easy. Much easier than taking it in person. Very little time commitment and overall a great class. Highly highly recommend.

10/10 would recommend the hybrid class. Weekly hw assignments that you could always get 100% on, a few group discussion type assignments, 3 online open note tests, final is a project that is relatively simple compared to many others classes. This class does not have the workload that other 4 unit ones do, it felt like a 2 unit class

I probably could've gotten a better grade if I put more time into it than an hour each week. 3 tests w/ no time limit (20% total), 1 or 2 hw assignments per week w/ unlimited time & attempts and weekly discussion (part of participation which is 20% total), 2 online discussions & 1 collaboration (20% total), and a very lenient term project (20%).

Not sure why the average grade is a D- as this is one of the easiest classes you can take. EVERYTHING was online. 50-minute discussions once a week with your TA, so you only see Farrell in his lecture videos on Canvas. Quizzes are untimed with unlimited attempts. Exams are untimed with one attempt. Occasional discussionscollaborations online also.

It's an online class that only meets once a week, so it's nice! There are a lot of tedious assignments, but overall the class was fine and straightforward. The tests were mildly tricky but if you do well on the homework, you should be fine. The term project is fun but a lot of work!

Good class! Attend discussion once a week and do weekly quizzescollaborationsdiscussions. He offers a lot of extra credit and his grading policy is fair. Because everything is online you are allowed to work with someone else in the class on everything! I HIGHLY suggest making a study buddy in this class. Easy B but you have to work to get an A.

It was an easy A if you put in some effort. Everything was online: his lectures, his homework, his tests. Lectures were not mandatory, but discussion was mandatory. This helps though because the TA summarizes what was talked about in lecture for that week. This way, you can miss lectures and not be afraid of being behind.

No need to purchase the book (Language Files II). ATTEND discussion they're very helpful; no need to attend lecture frequently, but complete the hw. There are no midterms and at the end there's an online & untimed final (open book and you can work together with your friends on it); extremely easy A. Interesting material and easy - take the course.

His lecture is boring, the materials he talks about in class are not related to the test. The TA is helpful and teach better than the professor.Easy class after all, just do all the H.W and read the slides carefully, u must get at least have a B.

Hilarious and interesting!!! Great professor. Lectures aren't mandatory to get an A, but definitely interesting. Class is easy- take your time on doing the homework and the final. Start the essay early.

I'm not sure if he always structures the class this way, but literally everything is online. I only went to class twice and got an A. That being said, if you're going to skip lecture you should still listen to podcasts or at least go to discussion. Some of the subject matter can be challenging, but the professor and the TAs were extremely helpful.

He knows his subject matter well and seems to be a good professor, but the way he constantly pauses and "um's" after almost every single word makes it rather difficult for me to follow along with what he's saying.

You can easily pass just by going to the optional discussions when I took it Winter 2012. Kristen Ware was a phenomenal TA and taught exactly what we needed to know. Podcasts/slides posted online, but aren't really important. Six homeworks, midterm and final were all online, plus five page final paper. This class made me realize I love Linguistics!

Class was easy. Homework assignments were not bad at all. Lecture is mostly examples of the stuff that you learn in the text and stuff like that. Also podcast so easy to justify skipping class. I learned a lot from the TA I found, as discussion was where we really went over the concepts instead of just getting examples.

Among the worst professors I've had. A combined undergrad/grad course, a bad idea not detailed in the course catalog. Grad level lectures had most, if not all, undergrads scratching their heads. T.A. focused on the text, which helped, but final was almost incomprehensible. You're treated like a fool if you don't understand grad-level explanations.

Good professor with pretty easy subject matter. Mandatory, but easy hw. Easy tests and one paper with interesting prompts. He tends to ramble sometimes on concepts that are already fairly easy, which can get old. But overall, a good prof.
