I understand the comments about him being boring, but I truly think you can learn a lot from him if you actively engage in his classes. He is so caring, incredibly knowledgable and passionate about what he teaches, and has a really unique perspective that you can't get from most profs. Generous marker, wonderful storyteller, and overall great guy.

A great prof who really loves what he is doing. Brought lots of interesting stories to class and it was a great experience to be taught by someone who is both deeply passionate and highly knowledgeable about the content. Such a sweet and caring prof!

Overall, good class. However, you get most of it out of the readings and not necessarily from class. Those sample questions he gives during lectures are usually on the exam itself so thats the only good thing about attending lecture. Other than that, pretty useless. Also, all marking is done by the TA which was horrible.

High reading load, but if you attend class you're golden. Lecture is just discussing the readings, don't skip them because if you internalize what you discuss the midterm/final are going to be a breeze. Prof himself is a lot of fun, has a good sense of humour and enjoys what he does.

I was severely disappointed by this class. I found it to be a waste of time and what we were "taught" was not interesting and made no sense. Dr. Moore did not seem to have a clear view of what he was trying to teach and we spent the majority of time sitting through vine videos. An all around awkward class. I would not take Dr. Moore again

I would avoid this class and prof at all costs. Lectures are mind numbingly boring and Dr. Moore's expectations are very unclear.

Nice prof and wants you to succeed. Provides sample questions at every lecture, and often takes these exact questions for his exams, and gives short assignments every week. Lectures can be a little irrelevant because he likes to answer off-topic student questions about the readings and show a lot of weird youtube videos, but overall good course.

Dr. Moore is a sweet, sweet man, but they do not translate into his abilities as a teacher. His classes are boring & often off topic. I even went to office hours but he was still just monotone, awkward, & no help. I thought it was just the subject material that I was uninterested in, but we had a guest lecturer who was fantastic & engaging.

Unfortunately, a class on ethnographies of the circumpolar north turned into the ethnography of Patrick Moore. Huge amount of assigned readings but tbh, that's where you're going to learn from. Class was waste of time unless it was student presentations (where actual analyses occurred), and attendance mandatory. I won't take one Moore class of his.

Prof. Moore is one of the sweetest professors I've ever had here at UBC. He is understanding, enthusiastic, and nice. You can tell he is very knowledgable about his subject and genuinely enjoys discussing linguistic issues with students. Incredibly easy to approach and not difficult to keep up with, I would def recommend this class to anyone.

Love Professor Moore! He encourages discussion, great stories, super nice and always willing to help you if you're struggling. Yes, some of the readings are challenging but you learn a lot. Probably one of the best professors I have ever had at UBC.

Had him for 332 and 378. Really nice guy, knows his stuff, and really likes discussion. The readings are a bit intense at first though. I wasn't too into the subject matter of 332 but he delivered it well. I left feeling fine about the course but not amazed. Make sure you know the smaller stuff in the readings for exams (stories, etc.)

Some of the best readings ever offered in a class but that's where positives end. Class was a colossal waste of time. Nothing was further explored. Borrow the reading list from a friend, read the articles, learn a lot but DON'T take this class.

I would not recommend taking a class with him. He is very unorganized and his course lacked continuity. I walked away from it feeling like I hadn't learnt anything concrete. He's a nice guy. but extremely boring.

He's a really nice guy, and he really knows his stuff. The lecture itself was not great, really slow paced and I don't feel like I got a lot out of it, however, as his class is very participation based, the class quality depends completely on how many students did the readings and are willing to talk about them.

I was very disappointed with this class, as I am very interested in the subject matter. The poor choice of material was made worse by the lackluster lecturing. There are many wonderful anth professors and classes, Pat and this course definitely did not live up to that standard. I would avoid, if at all possible.

Great prof. Remembers EVERYBODY's name and there was about 80 students in the class. Most of the articles we read about are very interesting. Lots of movies. He's a bit aloof about instructions for papers, but other than that, the structure of class is predictable (good thing). Articles that are in the course package are more important for tests.

He is definitly the best professor in UBC! He has this really friendly atmosphere..So adorable and gentle man. You can tell he really wants you to do well in his classes. Bit of a lot of readings, I struggled in the first half of the term but was able to pull it off in the second half. 1 paper and two exams. HIGHLY recommended!
