Avery was a decent professor, however I only mainly went to class for the clicker points and never really followed his lectures. He was the better of my two lecturers the semester I had him though though. I mainly relied on study edge to learn and study the material and never paid attention much attention class and was able to get an A.

Physics 2 w/o calc is a super difficult class and you dont get too much help from the professors to succeed. If you're looking to do well in the class and dont feel like youre too good at the subject, I suggest checking out study edge. Their reviews are pretty much the only reason I did well in the class and I recommend it to everyone.

Solid choice. Class is graded in more lenient manner. Exams would be tough, except you're allowed to make a double-sided crib sheet which simplifies things tremendously. Exam questions come pretty straight from the notes/HITT so study those closely and you will do well. Overall very nice, reasonable guy who's willing to help and invest time.

Rude.. pretty much repeats on a daily basis how much he enjoys making his tests impossible.. bad jokes and boring lectures. And no you don't need Study Edge to get an A all you need to do is do all the old practice exams because they are too lazy to make new problems so they grab them from there.

Welcome to Episode 2 of the Physics weed-out classes. Much like PHY2053, this class is extremely test heavy. Study Edge is a MUST for this course, especially if you want to know what is actually going on in lectures and homework. Most importantly, the three main keys to this class: Study Edge, Practice Old Exam Problems, and a solid formula sheet

Avery was very fair to say the least. Physics 2 is no joke but if you put in the work you will do well. Go to class, read the textbook, understand the hw, do the old exams and do Study Edge. It's important to get exposure to as many problems you can since they ask variations, Study Edge was very helpful for that.

Avery isnt that bad of a professor, however I'm pretty lazy and either didnt want to go to class or didnt pay attention if i did. I didnt even buy the textbook. Just use Study Edge and stay consistent with them and you'll pass this class no problem. I got a 93 on the first exam and barely went to class.

This class is difficult no matter how you look at it. The HW helps to prepare for quizzes and exams but it is hard. I Used Study Edge for the class and it made it a lot easier to understand how to do problems and it gave a resource bank of problems solutions for old exams. Overall my friends that didn't use Study Edge got about 1 grade lower.

Not too tough, but you definitely have to do the homework and it helps to read the notes he makes for each chapter.

He was very helpful during office hours and made physics actually interesting. He was very clear with his expectations about the class, and the clicker questions helped reinforce the material better.

He's a nice guy and a decent teacher, but his exams were what made the class a poor experience. 50 minutes is not enough time for 10 questions.

I took this class with Avery and Hershfield.Avery was the lesser of the two professors, but he wasn't too bad.He seemed to have a unique sense of humor most of the class did not get. Uses power point in conjunction with chalkboard. Sometimes skipped important material, in assumption you read ahead. Overall not the best, but certainly not the worst.

terrible!i had him for an upper level course and thought he would be great. he turned out to be very rude and not helpful at all. his class unorganized, he made the subject boring, homework didn't correlate to classwork at all. felt totally helpless in the class. a joke and waste of time. i dropped it. he is not good at teaching!

Great, great, great. Made class interesting. Definitely the better half of the lecturing duo. Very funny, but also very good at explaining the material. Best physics prof I've had.

Avery was such a good professor. I really enjoyed his lectures. Granted, I'm not sure how much of my respect for him comes from Rinzler being awful, but regardless, I really enjoyed having him as a professor; he really explained the concepts well.

Dr. Avery is a very easy to listen to in a lecture, is very nice outside of lecture. He was not particularly good at explaining ideas, but he is unfortunatly one of the best physics teachers I've had.

Dr. Avery has been using the chalkboard more often instead of powerpoint slides, making him easier to understand. He's also very friendly and approachable, and he makes the topic exciting. Best physics professor I've had so far.

Between him and Rinzler, Avery is SOOOO much better! Literally the class cheers when they see Avery, because he actually teaches the material on the board through example, not just powerpoint. Hard class, but all physics is, and Avery makes it easier to understand.

Avery co-"taught" physics 2 with Kumar, and he actually was the better teacher. Unfortunately, he was always gone traveling or something so he taught very little. This duo was horrible.
