Had him in conjunction with Kim Rubin for a "Paul the Apostle" class. Prof Harvey is SO knowledgeable, it's mind blowing. He's an interesting character who is super funny and glad to help with anything. He appreciates thoughtful comments and goes off on tangents that are actually quite relevant. I would take this class again in a heartbeat.

Perhaps one of the most knowledgeable profs at Penn State. Cares about teaching and about students, and he's funny too.

You have to want to do the work in his class, but he's really helpful. Wants you to learn, really funny, tells all these obscure stories. Class wasn't really that difficult, but not for the faint of heart or the unprepared.

A genius. Literally. Of all Roman authors, Catullus is far from my favorites list, but Harvey made the poems really enjoyable. He is a font of all kinds of ridiculous information that no one else knows. The quizzes were pretty easy; I'd say most people managed a B or higher. His big thing is that you raise your hand and translate.

He is such an AMAZING teacher! Very funny and interesting. If you pay attention you learn a lot of info. There were a ton of books to read for this class but I found that I only needed to semi read one or two. For quizes you just have to write a paragraph about a term and he let us just write a paper for both the midterm and the final.

This guy knows just about everything about Roman history; even for a strictly Latin class we got off on some huge tangents (but it was worth it!). He's really helpful and DOES NOT do the public humiliation thing other Latin teachers are so fond of. If this guy is teaching a class, take it!

Easily one of the best professors I've ever had. Was never bored once in his class even though he'll talk for an hour and fifteen minutes straight. Learned a ton and looked forward to every lecture. Also has a fantastic sense of humor. I wish he taught more classes, because I would take them all.

Harvey's a rock star! The "hot" reference is more of a joke...this man tears the filters off cigarettes and is mortally offended that you'd think he'd lower himself to filters. He know EVERYTHING about Latin and Rome. He's this old geezer with more knowledge in his pinky than most of the world has....period. Most of all, he's funny as hell.

Took 2 of his classes years and years ago, one was honors level intro and the other a 400 level course to complete a history minor. Highly amusing, articulate and in general a very witty prof. Take his classes if you love history, want to learn and be entertained with the things the books don't always tell you about!
