Helford is very picky when it comes to the papers you write. He was insulting and rude in his feedback. Not a professor that wants you to succeed. Will not work with you AT ALL.

First of all, he started his intro by saying he was doing us a service by being our teacher. I took this course online and it was SO much work. He was a tough grader, but you can use the quizzes on the tests.

Do the work, get the grade. Co-taught with Joe Cardone (IMDB J.S. Cardone), an industry professional who had invaluable insight into the business and stories galore. A great way to learn about other jobs and opportunities in the film industry. Extra credit available if you bomb an assignment. Paul actually takes attendance and learns your name.

Paul is the most helpful teacher around! He takes such an interest in his students and is willing to work with anyone to make sure they do the best possible work. He is so supportive of his students and is always looking for opportunities for anyone who shows an interest. Not only is he a great person, but he's an excellent teacher as well. A+!

Paul is super helpful and all around a great guy. I took the online class and loved it. You basically just watch movies and write about them, however if you don't enjoy old movies you might not like this class. Most of his test questions are on the chapter quizzes and over the film clips. Don't bother buying the book you don't need it

I took his online film class for a liberal arts credit. The films are incredibly boring but most do not have to be watched to complete the assignments. 75% of exam questions are from the quizzes that you can print (or put in a word doc for ctrl+f) and you do NOT need to buy the book. Easy class with about 1 assignment per week.

Good guy although I've never seen him in person. Took his course online. COM 382 will take A LOT of time. Many films to view! Very fair in terms of policies. Edit your submissions for grammar and sentence structure: he WILL subtract points. (as he should - it's a college paper, not a text message about "Brawndo, the thirst mutilator!")

Loved this class! He makes it very interesting by using tons of movie/youtube clips in his lecture. Two 10+ page papers. Time consuming but do them and you will get an A. Easy class! Highly recommend him.

Helford is a wonderful instructor! He manages to keep the class engaged despite the class size (250+) with small group discussions, helpful power points, and his infamous film clips. If you make the effort, he will really help you through the course. Also, the only time we truly needed the book was for the two assigned essays. Not bad, overall!

Requirement of writing ridiculously long essays (10+ pages) for a 101 class. Teacher is boring and dumb. I feel smarter than this guy. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. You will come out of it feeling like you wasted an entire semester.

The big lecture class was easy but boring. You can't skip class cause he actually manages to take attendance using in class assingments. Outside assignments were all online and relatively easy. Do the work and get an A. But be prepared to be bored to death.

His film class is very engaging, most of the online homework can be tough, but it helps most students understand the basic fundamentals of film. The film series also added to the fun of this class in a way that it allows everyone to experience classics.
