This teacher is horrible! He is the most dull English teacher I've ever had. He will talk about his religion a lot and a lot of stupid information just to get through class. He has stupid paper guidelines too. He also makes you do a lot of useless work in there so if he's not grading work Do Not Do The Work In There!!

Very religious and often incorporates his beliefs in the class lectures. Confusing at times. Never stops talking. I could honestly do all the work from my dorm without showing up to class-- not necessary but attendance is mandatory. Lots of papers. Better have a textbook or a buddy that lets you borrow his. Dr Houghton is a seriously brilliant instructor. He clearly explains the goals of each assignment and spends the entirety of every class preparing the students for them. He gives helpful feedback and is always willing to listen. Anyone leaving bad reviews, I'm assuming they just aren't very strong writers and got some criticism they didn't like.

Where to begin? First off, this class was one of the worst classes i've ever taken. Incredibly boring, and his hyper-religiosity is enough to make even a Christian nauseated. Don't take him unless all you wan to hear about is how horrible abortions are - yes, he said this.

He turns research writing into some kind of twisted religious class. He basically tries to convert his students to Catholicism. He makes known his opinions on just about every issue, which is completely unprofessional because it shouldn't be just what HE thinks is important. Find another prof who actually cares about YOUR thoughts, not just his own

This guy is absolutely horrible. If you have any opinions that are considered "leftist" or maybe aren't too fond of the Christian religion, I recommend you stay away from Houghton. He will tell you that "you are welcome to share your opinion, even if it is not the same" as his, but it isn't true. I once tried to and literally would not let me talk.

Speak in a VERY monotone voice. Reads straight from the book and does not have an interesting class discussion. Lesson plans are open for religious interpretation and he WILL push Catholicism on his students. "You can have your own opinion, but if it's not the same as mine, it's wrong." He actually said that to the class. DON'T TAKE CLASS WITH HIM!

The worst teacher ever. He doesn't teach the class. He reads passages from the book, reads the captions, and then asks what the students think. His assignments are awful. The only thing he will interpret for you is Roman Catholicism. And he's ridiculously boring.

This guy has no idea what he is talking about. I turned in one papaer three times and changed it three times, because he said it was wrong. The fourth time he said it was wrong i did not change a think and got an A on it. That makes sense how. Houghton really needs to reconsider his career choice.
