Comment:
Paul is a really neat guy, but he's kind of a harsh grader. He looks for very specific things in his papers, and if you don't include them you could end up with a bad grade. He assigns reading which is not always required (no quizzes) but there will be discussion, which he heavily factors into your grade.

I took this class online, and I learned a lot. However, I've taken over 20 online classes in the past, and I've never had a professor grade so harshly on discussions! If you don't have classmates that respond to yours so you can then reply, you lose points. I'm a straight A student that's barely getting a B now. I don't recommend him at all :(

Paul is easy to work with, and listens to the concerns of his students. I really appreciated his commitment to students. Class was fairy engaging - I appreciated he pushed us to think about the economic and social context (not just memorizing dates/events).

Excellent prof! I had minimal interest in a "history" course in the beginning and at the end of the semester I had fallen in love with the subject. Paul does a great job making class interesting and engaging while also challenging. Always willing to help, he's highly interested in investing in each of his students (even the biology majors like me!)

Paul is the schizz! One of my favorite professors of all time, who helped me to grow as a student and as a person, and now, 8 years later, he's still a trusted friend and advisor. I took 3 classes with him and worked as his student assistant at Fox. I'm appreciating his encouragement and input on my PhD at a different university.

Great Prof, homework due every class and missing his lecture w/ the powerpoints will hurt you in the long run. Daily homework is short essay questions, 4 tests no final or mid term each is 50 multiple choice questions, in addition to these you have to read 1 book and do a group presentation on it. Over all a fun, educational class.

There's an assignment due everyday in his US History to 1865 class to make sure you attend class and his tests are multiple choice but the hard kind. He's really cool and friendly so talk to him and he'll like you

He is an interesting professor but I found his tests to be very hard; it would be easy if he just had questions about when things happened or who did them, but he is a 'big picture' professor (where it is not so much who or when it happened as the why; it felt frustrating because knowledge of actual events in history were totally useless).

Likely the most under-appreciated professor at Fox. Talk to him outside of class -- he is a real kick!

At first I thought, "Oh great. A guy who talks in circles and doesn't get anywhere." But my first impression was false, and I have come to really appreciate his lectures and unique humor. I look forward to coming to class. He is dedicated to helping students gain a real understanding of the subject.

He was my advisor too. He is a really nice guy, just dry in lecture and humor. I didn't like his testing style at all.

Um, yea. Tests are VERY hard, and while he remembers names completely, he doesn't offer much help when it comes to understanding, and I think he lacks compassion for the average college student. BUT, he loves history so he's definitely interesting.

Paul doesn't enjoy teaching this class. He cruises through the book barely taking the time to look at the details. Doesn't go into depth at all. He only wants you to get the "big picture" and doesnt seem to care if anyone is having trouble. He was a very monotone and boring teacher. Hopefully you like to read 100-130 pages of history a night!
